Hey just curious if you know, but did he have any other offers other than Western Carolina?

Don't forget, Kevin Martin form Zanesville went to Western Carolina and now he's one of the leading scorers in the NBA and just signed a $55 million dollar contract this past year.

I think that where you go to school for bball doesnt matter half as much as it does for football (when it comes to turning pro). Everyone has their individual workouts, and if you can play, you can play. So props to this kid for being a state champ!!

State champions return home to heroes' welcome
By ABBEY STIRGWOLT
Advocate Reporter

NEWARK ? They arrived in a motorcade of police cruisers and fire trucks, lights flashing, sirens wailing. They leaned out the bus windows and slapped hands with eager supporters waiting and cheering on the pavement below before the bus even had come to a stop at Newark High School.

Post players get it done
By TOM WILSON
Sports Writer

COLUMBUS -- On paper, Newark's boys basketball team might not have the big inside presence, nor do they look the part. What they do have is scrappy players such as Dane Kopp, Will McCoy and Taylor Huffman, who came up big when they had to.

Avery's career-high 33 lifts Newark to title
By JOSH HACHAT
Sports Writer

COLUMBUS -- The morning came earlier than expected, but Greg Avery woke up Saturday with a good feeling. "I stayed at (Cody Dennison's) house and his dad woke us up when they were showing the highlight of the dunk (off the glass from Friday's state semifinal)," Avery said. "That gave us a little boost."

With a state final performance that ranks among the best in history, Avery helped end a 65-year drought with a night that will have Newark chattering for years.

Avery === Western Carolina...

That is way too low for this kid IMO...Easy lower tier big ten, and hell I was thinking about getting ahold of coach Matta and telling him he missed one in his own backyard...

One of the best performances I have ever witnessed in person...Kid dominated the game all over the floor, takin it to the rack, shot the three, shot the midrange jumper, divin' on the floor for loose balls, stealing the ball, rebounding the ball, scoring 30+ and topping it off with a crowd roaring dunk...

Honestly I was told before the final four by someone that saw them at the fairgrounds that Newark would be lucky to stay in the games with the teams that were going to state...The blew these teams out and looked great doing it...

BTW I think the whole town of Newark was there tonight, they made the schott louder than it is at some mens games...

Don't forget, Kevin Martin form Zanesville went to Western Carolina and now he's one of the leading scorers in the NBA and just signed a $55 million dollar contract this past year.
First, props to Newark.
I have to believe that Matta knew about Avery but which scholarship was he going to give him... Walter's? That would be the big question.
Also, when the announces on TV said that they did not know where he was going to school I immediately thought of grades.
I have to admit on television that the Schott looked more filled than it does for an Ohio State game.
I know there was a reference to Kevin Martin of Zanesville but I do not think he was as highly rated as Avery. I wonder who the coach down at West Carolina knows in Licking/Muskingum counties.
