NIU IN THE ORANGE BOWL!!!!

Waiting for all the resident Herbie lovers to come on defending him...

It would be one thing if he was like Billy Packer and just hated all small schools for every reason all the time. But he had so much saliva built up for Boyzee State's knob for those 3-4 years that it seems just a little laughable now that he would be all "small schools don't deserve their shot" all of a sudden.
He's not against small schools not getting their shot, he's against teams that don't deserve it. This is the first team from a non-BCS league to get in without going undefeated. This is a NIU team that lost to a pathetic Iowa team, squeaked by the worst team in the Big XII(Kansas) by 7, beat Army by one and plays in a bad conference. Sorry, I don't know how voters vote a team with that resume #16 in the country. NIU did nothing wrong, but the system can't be allowing teams like this into BCS bowl games. You have to do something a little more impressive if you're from a non-BCS league if you're going to earn that bid.

I'm convinced they let NIU in on the basis of the coolness of their team mascot, the Turdfiddler.

There's nothing wrong with thinking or saying that NIU doesn't deserve to be there. But you can do it without coming off like a snob like Herbstreit did.

If Oklahoma wanted to be there, they shouldn't have lost 2 of their 3 biggest games this year.

I love the MAC - I really do.

But if you want to play in the big bowls you need to schedule somebody in the non-conference. Boise at least did that.

NIU's non-conf schedule included a loss to an Iowa team that had only two other Div I victories. It also included wins over three other teams who themselves combined for a total of two wins against Div I schools. One of those wins was by one point and the other by seven. That's simply pathetic.

Kent St beat Rutgers when they were 7-0. That gave them a bump in the polls that positioned them for a BCS rum. IMO when NIU beat Kent many voters simply swapped them without ever looking at the body of work. To put them in at #15 they had to rank them above UCLA, Louisville, Nebraska, Wisconsin. Northwestern, Texas and Michigan. Among other things that makes them the second best team in the B1G behind OSU. And they lost to the only B1G team they played - sub-500 Iowa. Are you shitting me?

If I am an NIU alum I am over the moon. If I am being objective I am asking WTF?

and on the scheduling agenda that is being thrown around. Nearly every year they've scheduled two AQ teams per year. Big 10, Big 12, SEC, ACC. yep check check check check.

don't give me that garbage that they don't schedule well, unless you are saying the big 10 sucks......? and the big 12...etc....etc...

Saying Iowa sucks is not the same as saying the Big Ten sucks.... Iowa REALLY sucks, so does Northern Illinois' strength of schedule.

I just don't think the MAC deserves to be in a BCS bowl game this year. If NIU beats Iowa, or Kent State beats Kentucky, then maybe... But NIU lost to Iowa, and Kent State lost to Kentucky... Nuff said.

If a non AQ team schedules an AQ team, who should win? How much should they win by?

All we hear is that the AQ teams are sooooo much better than non AQ which is just a crock of [Mark May]. The majority for sure, but not every program, that is clear.

How the hell did NIU beat Alabama, Maryland, Iowa State all in the same freakin' year?!??

If our schedule sucks, then so do the AQ conferences we routinely schedule (generally twice per year by the way).

If we schedule big 10, big 12, SEC, ACC and you say their schedule sucks, who in the [censored] do you expect them to schedule?!??! Is there an uber team made up of cyborgs somewhere.......

(oh, and Jordan Lynch for Heisman!)

I would not be at all surprised if NIU makes this a close game or even pulls off the upset. Florida State is playing to not become a laughing stock whereas NIU is playing for everything. If that's not the setup for an upset, I don't know what is.
