Odell Thurman-Legal Troubles?

tlinc

All-American
Rumor has it that the Bengals' Odell Thurman is going to miss the entire 2006 season due to a drug issue.

Has anybody heard anything in this regard?

Would be a huge blow if true.

Ive never been a big fan of Odell's game.

Hes too fiery. Dont get me wrong, I love it when football players get fired up and everything, but he takes it to another level.

I remember when he played against the Browns last year. Aaron Shea caught a pass and went 12 yards to get a first down, and was tackled by Odell. It wasnt a big hit or anything, but you wouldve thought by his celebration that he won the Super Bowl. Aaron Shea just looked at him and motioned with his hand first down.

Him and Ray Lewis are probably the only two players I have ever seen that celebrate a tackle after 8 or more yards.

An entire year suspension for a first time offense in the NFL? This has to be a huge offense then, because usually it takes your third drug violation in the NFL to garner a year suspension. First violation is entrance into drug program. Second is a four-game suspension, and then the year.

Where did you get this rumor? I can't find info anywhere.

BTW...with the drug thing the 1st offense is never made public. So at worst it would be a 2nd offense.

I can tell you one thing. Even if it's a minor thing, Thurman's in some real trouble. Marvin Lewis will not take any shit, whatsoever, and that's what's good and admirable about the new Bengals team.

I am would hold off on saying anything about ML not taking any shit until we see what happens with Henry and Nicholson. If Lewis does any more than any suspension the NFL doles out ot Henry, I would be shocked. Everybody else in the league knew about these three's reputations before they were drafted, yet the Bengals pounced on all three. Granted, Thurman is a beast and will only get better, and Henry is a terrific number three receiver if he keeps his head straight, but these problems (or in Thurman's case - unconfirmed) can't be seen as 100% shocking or surprising.

THURMAN NOT SUSPENDED

At a time when Bengals coach Marvin Lewis is being criticized for the team's selection of turds like receiver Chris Henry and linebacker A.J. Nicholson, we're told that rumors of a looming embarrassment from yet another recent draft pick are off the mark.

There's talk that linebacker Odell Thurman, who hardly has been a choir boy during his first season in Cincy, will be suspended for the 2006 season, presumably for violations of the substance abuse policy. Per a league source, the rumors aren't true.

We can't get any more details than that (such as, for example, whether Thurman is in the substance abuse program at a level less than the trigger for a one-year banishment) given the highly confidential nature of such matters.

But confidentiality and the possibility of a $500,000 fine for breaching it hasn't kept many folks from blabbing about matters regarding the drug policy in the past, so if Thurman has generated any positive tests we figure word will get out.

For now, though, there are no truth to rumors of a one-year suspension.

And here is the problem...if the league suspends Henry for any amount of time , the Bengals can not do anything such as cut him until such time as the suspension ends, then and only then can they take any action such as cutting him. Do you really think that the Vikings would have kept Ontario Smith around all of last year if he wasn't suspended by the nfl? nope...and as soon as he could be let go the vikings got rid of him.
