I would go if I would win the student lottery for a $150 ticket. Of course, I'd have to be eligible for the student lottery, which I no longer am :(

I'll have to wait till the next big bowl game before I can make a trip.

With LSU fans being one of the biggest tailgating schools in the NCAA... hanging out in the parking lot eating, drinking and carrying on is almost as good as being at the game. Hell all ya have to do is walk up to a group and offer something as simple as good conversation and you'll be partying all night. If i'm able to get down there... i'll be sure to grab some of you Buckeye fans for a great tailgating experience.

For ANY Buckeye who is having trouble finding a hotel in N.O.

I know downtown is almost fully booked, so I recommend trying Metairie and Kenner. Both have some nice hotels and they are about a 5-10 minute ride to the dome.

Also, you can try Gretna, LA (10 min) Belle Chasse, LA (10 min)

GOOD LUCK!:oh:

I wish the hubby and I could afford this trip. I love New Orleans and Lousiana. I've spent some time there, and once seriously considered moving there. Still do sometimes. I like the mild winters and can deal with the sticky summers but those storms..wow. I experience the edge of a hurricane once in North Carolina while I was in the Army, I cannot imagine living thru a full force.

My mother is a white voodienne of sorts. She practices Santeria, it's the Mexican version. She donated some art that hangs in the voodoo museum there near the French Quarter. She lived for awhile in a house on stilts on a bayou about 2 hours west of N.O. working for a shrimping company.

I love that place.

One day, when we can actually afford a "honeymoon" it's been planned for N.O.

Warning!
Those staying in hotels anywhere should not put luggage on the bed!
There is a wide spread bedbug epidemic and the reason for it spreading is tourist/travellers putting their luggage on soft furniture like beds and soft chairs/couches. If you have a concern about bedbugs pack some soft
plastic sheeting to prevent the little buggers from making a meal of you.
You can't see bed bugs during the day, but you can check for the red/brown stains left by them feeding.

Of course, if your drunk most of the time it probably won't matter. :tongue2:

Wild idea for those going to the game: Let's plant trees

As is so widely known, New Orleans is still reeling from Katrina.

One thing less publicized is that the area was devastated by the deforestation that the storm caused.

I just saw this:

Katrina, Rita Caused Forestry Disaster

"New satellite imaging has revealed that hurricanes Katrina and Rita produced the largest single forestry disaster on record in the nation -- an essentially unreported ecological catastrophe that killed or severely damaged about 320 million trees in Mississippi and Louisiana."

"Urban "forests" often fared even worse than timber plots. According to Edward Macie, regional urban forester for the Forest Service's Southern Region, about 75 percent of the trees in New Orleans died because of the storm."

Anyone interested in trying to put together a group to plant some trees while we're down there? This one in particular might be a good choice...

Ohio Buckeye

I hope we can get some peeps together, maybe make an event out of it to get some press for the situation, and for the goodness of Buckeye Nation...
