Game Thread Ohio State 37, Penn State 17 (final)

Just more of the same, this time from College Football News:

1. Ohio State (9-0)
W, at Penn State 37-17
next game: Wisconsin
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because ...
Penn State isn?t the be-all-end-all team many made it out to be. Yes, winning in Happy Valley on a Saturday night is big, but it?s not like pulling off the win in Death Valley

Great game, the fans were actually very nice. I expected much worse. OSU fan was respectable as well, so we did represent well. Sat about 30 rows back, opposite corner of the white out and the same end of the stadium as all of the OSU fans (not with them, unfortunately). Good place to watch a game as well. Pretty cold, and Happy Valley is a nice town. There is just nothing out there! Middle of nowhere.

There was a radio show on the way out on 1450, and tPSU talk show hosts were funny. They were cracking on themselves, talking about how they dominated the punting game.

i had to listen the penn state crew broadcast the game on my way home in the car. they were just too much. i was laughing so hard that my three-year old got upset with (he thought i was laughing at his beloved buckeyes!) it seemed that they would always call beanie down after "just a gain of a couple", but somehow miraculously, he would always get another 5 or 6 yards, i guess while falling down. then there was their play call on the first down pass to hartline when the bucks were pinned inside the 10... according the psu crew we just "barely got the first down" (with only 3 or 4 yards extra to spare).:smash:

just unbelievably funny. then i got home and had to listen to the dynamic duo on espn. so i just shut off the sound and tuned into paul keels on 1460's internet stream.

absolutely great game. as proud as ever to be a buckeye!

I know I was just hearing the crowd noise on my tv, but that was the loudest crowd I have ever heard! Well done PSU fans!

But, crowd behavior was bad I have heard from several sources.
Giving glow sticks to that drunken crowd(who threw them) was a horrible decision! WTF were they thinking? :(

I gotta tell you guys, I'm glad we're getting disrespected. If the media was talking about how great the SEC and Florida were at the end of last season, I think 41-14 could have been avoided. I say keep disrespecting these guys and make sure that chip stays on their shoulder.

Kirk Barton is making a living off drilling ESPN in post-game interviews (he called out Mark May, and answered Pat Forde's question with a big "Oh, hey, welcome to the bandwagon."). The entire team seems to have this mentality that nobody respects them. It reminds me of the "soulja" mindset of the dominant Miami teams, only with no felonies to go with it. These guys are on a holy crusade to prove everyone wrong. It's nice.

They were doing that too, but when they went his way, it was JL they were aiming for. Of course I guess I should preface that by saying I missed a few plays here and there because I was either feeding or changing Ella

Dude, no one has ever died from diaper rash. Tell her to suck it up. :p

This one belongs to the O-line... They were superlative...

Amen to that! Outstanding blocking the entire night!

This is surprising, because CFN is usually rather balanced when compared to places like ESPiN and Sportsline. They recognize the SEC speed myth as bullshit, have pointed out that Florida and LSU may end up being the only truly great teams in the conference (and now it may be down to LSU), so on and so forth. For them to trot out this "first real test" stuff at this point is simply confusing.

Amazing how Happy Valley goes from "Toughest place to play in country" and a +3.5 line to "They aren't even that good...".

Does the media realize that all this does is fuel the fire within a team?

How have the Patriots responded to be called cheaters (They were, but some things were thrown around, such as "This discounts all of their Super Bowls" and Jerome Bettis saying "I would really like that '05 AFC Championship Game back")?

Jim Tressel and Bill Belichick are workaholics. They live for what they do. They never rebuild. They just go out there and outwork every opponent.

The only difference between the Patriots and the Buckeyes is that the criticism of the Patriots ended, and now they are praised. The Buckeyes continue to be criticized, and thus, they will continue to be angry and fight back with so much more than everyone else.

Come December, when the Ohio State Buckeyes are undefeated, Mike Hart finishes in the Top 5 of Heisman voting, and Big Ten teams start beating down on teams from other conferences in Bowl Games, we'll be laughing.

I mean, to be honest, Purdue is 7-2. Michigan is 7-2. Wisconsin is 7-2. Illinois is 6-3. Penn State is 6-3. Indiana is 5-3. Iowa is 4-5. Northwestern is 5-4. Michigan State is 5-4. They way things are going to line up, we may have 10 teams in bowl games.

I see the Big Ten ending up something like this:

Ohio State 12-0 (8-0)
Michigan 9-3 (7-1)
Purdue 10-2 (6-2)
Illinois 8-4 (5-3) Say what you will about Ron Zook, but he has boosted the overall strength of our conference.
Wisconsin 8-4 (4-4) :shake:
Northwestern 7-5 (4-4)
Penn State 7-5 (3-5)
Iowa 6-6 (3-5)
Michigan State 6-6 (2-6)
Indiana 6-6 (2-6)
Minnesota 1-11 (0-8)

That is 10 bowl eligible teams. Granted, we only have 7 tie-ins, but you get the idea of that being pretty solid.

For the record, I have:
Purdue winning out.
Illinois only losing to tOSU.
Wisconsin losing to tOSU and scUM.
Northwestern beating Iowa and Indiana.
Penn State beating Temple, and losing to Michigan State.
Indiana beating Ball State.
Iowa beating Minnesota and Western Michigan.
Michigan State beating Penn State at East Lansing, in the most rejoiced victory in the last 4 years at Michigan State.

Picking Purdue over Penn State, as Penn State is kinda beat up, and, to be honest, I'm rooting for Purdue. A 10-2 Purdue team has a solid chance at a BCS Game.

Interesting analysis. You put some good thought into that.

However, Purdue will not play in a BCS game. They would obviously have to get picked as an at-large team, which will not happen to a Big 10 team this year - especially a team without a huge fan-following.

Yeah. That, and they lost easily to Michigan and Ohio State.

It's okay, they will do a good job facing off against #3 in the SEC (Oh, I hope it's Florida, so Florida can lose to someone who tOSU and TSUN thumped).

The big10 needs a year without two teams in the BCS, itll help to even out our matchups a little bit. I think the worst thing that could happen to the big10 right now is if michigan beats osu and steals the rosebowl. I dont want to see scUM spanked in anotehr BCS game by LSU or some crap, and I dont want purdue or whoever having to go against higher seeded teams from other conferences... its just not a good year for that shit... We need to win out, take home the crystal football, let scUM knock of florida or georgia in the citrus and on down the line... a clean sweep in the bowls by a whole conference looking for respect.
