Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Agreed that great win. Happy to see tOSU go up in the lesser weights, and then finish strong. Used to be (seems to me) that we'd go down first three-four, and then have to claw our way back into the match in the higher weights. It seemed to be over before the match got going. Also nice to have such dominant wins early on. Did it seem to anyone else that St. John's was more filled (fuller?) than the Schott? Cameramen kept on the loge and below, but saw some corners empty. What a grand place. Wrestling, football prep, and the marching band strapping it on for the march to the Shoe. Whoever wanted to tear it down has got the second stupidest idea ever at tOSU, right next to Andy Geiger's idea to sell the Scarlet & Gray Golf Courses for housing......Go Bucks!

Kollin Moore wrestling against Tervel, Myles, and Kyle is obviously paying off. Two takedowns in the third period; it looked like he really wore Cox down. He's gotten a taste of the top two guys now, so he's in a great spot this year to work his way up to the NCAA's. And, wow, it looked like Tomasello's opponent just wanted to get off the mat. Total domination. Lots of exciting things from this team....but I'm most excited to see NaTo at the new weight level!

OSU related.... Logan Stieber won the world championship 8-4 at 61kg today

Incredible accomplishment, just came in here to post on this. Having two Buckeyes win world titles in back to back years is nothing short of amazing. Logan is such a great ambassador of our university and this was completely unexpected, but 100% earned. Congrats to Logan, he has come a long way since the days I used to see him come through our camps. And it might be time to get our 4x NCAA Champ and World Champ his own thread.

And I went ahead and caved in reading the score before I could watch the second half of the dual. Team really did a great job out there and if we can wrestle like that, we can win all of our duals. Pletcher scored a HUGE win, Synon is a very tough wrestler and very experienced...no idea how he is not ranked. Luke has some great technique, he can be a huge weapon for us.

Tomasello looked fantastic against a very good opponent and looks to be settling in to his new weight. Nice win for Rodriguez as well, Assad is no slouch...good to see no hangover from a great CK tourney. Mic smoked his guy, wish we would have seen him go against Mayes though. Ryan and Burcher did a good job of limiting the damages with only giving up decisions to two very good wrestlers. I have not watched past those matches and will later, but it sounds like Moore had a really good showing...as @HabaneroBuck said, wrestling Tervel, Snyder and Myles has had to have gone a really long ways in his improvement...Kollin was good in high school but is exceeding expectations by a mile right now (as is Rodriguez I might add, who is likely benefiting a great deal from wrestling NaTo and Pletcher). Looks like Bo might have had some rust but look forward to see him get back in the groove.

Considering the injuries and all circumstances, this was a hell of a performance for our boys. Regardless of whether we go all the way or not, this is going to be a really fun team to watch this year.

Slow week for OSU wrestling... Myles Martin and Luke Pletcher are wrestling unattached at Midlands. Both went 3-0 into the quarter finals. Martin squeaked out a 10-9 decision in the first match against a no name guy from FMU and then won two matches easily before falling to Decow from ODU 7-4 in the quarter finals. He was gassed in the third. He'll wrestle in the consolation round tomorrow. Pletcher came from behind in an early match and then faced Kolodzik from Princeton and lost handily and will also wrestle tomorrow in the consolation round. Luke wrestled well but the size difference was pretty obvious in the last match. He had a tough time getting out from bottom.

Kolodzik is a familiar name in Ohio, remember my brother wrestling in '05 and '06 seeing that name up at the state championships. Guessing it's the younger brother of the one I seen.

WRESTLING: STIEBER, SNYDER RANKED NO. 1 IN THE WORLD

78943_h.jpeg,qitok=KrGanFg-.pagespeed.ce.SAqjd7ftMx.jpg

Thanks to a World Championship back in December, Logan Stieber predictably joined Kyle Snyder atop the latest United World Wrestling freestyle rankings, released on Wednesday.

Stieber's ranking comes after introducing himself in a big way on the world stage at the senior level. While Stieber previously won a Junior World silver medal, he made a splash in Budapest with a title at his first senior level World Championships. Stieber is ranked No. 1 in the world by the UWW at the non-Olympic weight of 61 kg (134.4 lbs), which also features fellow American Alan Waters at No. 18. Stieber won the last of his four NCAA titles for Ohio State in 2015 at 141 lbs. At just 25 years old, Stieber is relatively young in the international wrestling community, so he will no doubt continue to make his mark on the world stage for years to come.

157: TJ Ruschell (UW) decision over Jake Ryan (OSU) 6-2 | OSU 23, UW 15

Nothing bad about this match other than the head-scratching MD by Jimenez over Rodriguez. It was closer through the first two periods, but then domination in the third almost leading to the tech. Ouch. Bump in the road, hopefully. They pulled Jimenez' red-shirt for this match, so maybe they think he can place in the NCAA's this year?

Burcher impressed in keeping it close with Jordan, and Kollin Moore just keeps giving us more to get excited about....he beat Robertson before 12-11. I think a lot of people are pleased with Pletcher's win. Anybody think he's going to make some noise at the B1G's, getting a feel for the new weight by then?

Well that is really a great result overall (especially with Snyder not wrestling), save for he Rodriguez match...what on earth happened there? Either way, wish I could have watched it. Great job by Burcher keeping it close. Moore has to be the star of the meet with that win, that is his most impressive match of the year...Robertson is no joke and he destroyed him...Kollin is quickly becoming my favorite on the team that does not have the last name Jordan.

As for the Kolodzik question, the younger brother (Matthew) ended up being the much better wrestler. They used to come to Graham practices all the time but both parents are doctors, too good for public school, so Matthew ended up at Blair. Before that, they were the only two wrestlers at some tiny private school in Dayton.

A win over Illinois, but Jose Rodriguez seems to be continuing in the backward direction. He started the year hot and recently not so much. Coupled with the usual holes and 157/165 and Bo Jordan not wresting today, it was a close match until the end for the good guys.
