OOC preferences

  • I like 1 marquee home-and-home & 3 in-state schools

    Votes: 15 18.8%
  • 1 marquee opponents; 2 games against lesser out of state schools; 1 in-state school at home

  • No in-state schools--it's a lose-lose

Here's an ideal hypothetical schedule:

Year 1
Fredo--"your cash is on the counter you cheap whore" game (ALWAYS at home)
@ Alabama (part of a two year home and away series)
Nevada
Vanderbilt (one of the last two, a one and done home game; the other a two for one)
8 Big Ten games

Every Third year, the lower BCS/mid-major game would be on the road--but only when it made sense for recruiting and/or the alumni to have an interesting road trip--in other words, an interesting locale such as Sand Diego, Vegas, Nashville etc.

There is value in lining up the Colorado States of the world compared to lining up YSU and two MAC schools every year. Line up one MAC school or UC. Then have three OOS/OOC. One of which is a marquee match up. Two out of the three from BCS conferences. Prefferably one from the SEC.
I know we would be giving up money.. But maybe we will have more interesting games with some peril to them.

My .02:

Its economics.

8 B10 games = 4 home games + 1 marquee OOC/ Fredo x 3 = 7-8 home games a year. IIRC a home game = 1M+ in revenue.

If you start playing the mid major out of state games you are going to be on the road eventually in a 50K seat stadium while the Shoe sits empty. Recruiting exposure and alumni trips be damned, thats missed revenue.

Recruiting exposure is the least valid reason I hear in these conversations imo. Our TV exposure, name recognition and the Bowl game take care of that.

I know its boring but the one premium OOC opponent + Fredo x 3 is the best way to do it.

bingo. people can complain all they want about the schedule. but at the end of the day the only thing that is important is whether or not the ad can pay the bills. i wonder how important having a mid major on the schedule would be if the consequence would be dropping one of the non money generating sports. while i would rather see 1 of the 3 in state schools replaced by a mid major, until i see the books and am certain we can afford it. im not going to complain so long as i have a texas or usc to look forward to.

Without even looking those up, "B" looks like LSU's (or Florida's)...
