Buckeye Breakdown: The Difference One Week Made for Isaiah Prince

It is no secret that Isaiah Prince struggled versus Penn State two weeks ago as he was “credited” with 14 pressures to J.T. Barrett. Last week in the game against Northwestern, Prince was the highest graded offensive lineman in all of college football per Pro Football Focus. The Ohio State right tackle did not allow a single QB pressure in 35 drop backs while grading well in the running game too.

That might very well be true, but that won't help us this year. Prince has struggled with the speed rush, passing pro we often need to shed the TE or keep a RB back but you luckily Samuel and Weber have been very good in that department. I think he's done well in the run game though - if you watch him, he has the lateral speed and length to be very good in pass pro, I almost think at this point it's a confidence issue. I'm no body language expert but I thought he seemed to really be beating himself up. Some guys you need to break them down when they struggle, others need to be coddled a bit....I think that's what Isaiah needs. The OL in general struggled lately but we have the staff to make the corrections and we will have plenty of time....lots of development happens this time of year!

Could not agree more. So many things on offense seem to take way too long. That would include getting the play in IMO.

He is actually a true sophomore. Michael Jordan is the true Frosh on the line.

He has all the tools. I think he will be better. Just has some work to do. I hear the transition from High School to College at this level is tough for most OL. Five more weeks to go. Get some rest this week, and get back to work.

I do see Jordan take over as RT next year while Prince moves to LG. Haven't heard much from Jordan this year. I am so happy about that. To be invisible as a true Freshman starter at Ohio State on the OL is truly remarkable.

Prince isn't really built like a guard though; he's too lean. He just needs to improve his technique. With his freakishly long arms, he has the potential to be dominant at tackle.

It is very tough for young OL....the handwork for HS DL to college DL is night and day and kids always struggle with that. You start playing a guessing game out there, especially young tackles, and that's not a good spot to be in when you have DE's that can speed and power rush you.

Just for a touch of perspective....we just beat the #3 team in the country with a true freshman starting at guard and true sophomore starting at tackle. Against a defense that graduates or loses every starter.....including the entire defensive line. A defensive line that also boasts 2 All-Big members, and likely a second teamer at least.

Prince can and will get better.....but considering where we are this year, he probably deserves some praise and credit too. He's hanging in there and going up against some amazing talent....

I wish we would've helped him out some and personally wish they would've put Bowen out there to do it as a TE.

When we faced NW at the time they led the big ten in sacks I want to say and they got ZERO against us and JT did a better (not great but better) job throwing the ball.

It's a joke that we attempt to help out with a 220 pound 5 foot 9 running back or our tight end who is hobbled. Get the 6 foot 8 310 pound Bowen out there and put him next to Prince. Give JT time and he will make the plays 65 percent of the time of problem. Besides Baugh isn't a game breaker as a WR so just make it obvious what we are doing with our 300 Left tackle then why don't we.

Always mind numb when we refuse to adjust when we clearly can't beat what they're doing whether that's protecting the QB of stopping the run by committing more defenders.
