OT Mike Adams (Official Thread)

Here's what JT said today:

Official.site

REPORTER: Jim, you had mentioned the guys who are not going to be available this game. Mike Adams specifically, is he suspended?

COACH TRESSEL: Is he suspended?

REPORTER: Yeah.

COACH TRESSEL: Well, he won't be with us this week, I can't really talk too much more about --

REPORTER: Will he be with you for the USC game?

COACH TRESSEL: We'll have to see.

REPORTER: So that has not been determined yet.

COACH TRESSEL: Not yet.

...

REPORTER: How far is Adams from being a factor, what he has to do on the field and what he might have to do off the field if that's an issue?

COACH TRESSEL: I think he's coming along in all aspects. He's a young guy and I'm not sure, especially when you play those tackle positions whether he or J.B. Shugarts or any of those guys that are extremely young, there's a lot buzzing around on those edges, especially when it's Thaddeus Gibson and Nathan Williams and Lawrence Wilson. They've been going spring and fall through all that but I think they're coming along.

REPORTER: But is he in the discussion right now?

COACH TRESSEL: Yeah.

REPORTER: He is?

COACH TRESSEL: Absolutely.

REPORTER: You'd still consider him third?

COACH TRESSEL: Yeah.

you never get too much out of Tress interviews do you? I still don't know anymore than I did before I read his comments about Adams. In-house is how it should be handled. Hopefully he gets the bugs worked out and we'll see him out there on Saturday in a couple of weeks.

I thought that Tressel was as informative as he can be given student privacy legislation and the interests of the player.

  • Adams will not play against Navy.
  • It is not clear whether he will play against USC. Clearly, there is a chance that he can do something that will make him eligible to play.
  • He's third right now.
What else does the general public need to know?

Meanwhile, Tressel indicated that sophomore left tackle Mike Adams, held out of the first two games for undisclosed disciplinary reasons, is working his way back into the good graces. Whether that means he can play this week, Tressel didn't say, but sources said it was a possibility.
Tressel Presser (9/15)
REPORTER: That said, a little bit the same thing, is Mike Adams now in your good graces or will he figure in?
COACH TRESSEL: He's getting there. We'll see how today goes and the next, but he worked pretty good yesterday.

If Mike is back in JT's good graces he should know the plays well enough for them to throw him in some this week. If he is backing up Miller he has a chance to go in if something were to happen to Miller, Browning, or JB. Maybe OSU is more likely to stick to the depth chart that my school was when I was in college. We went through 1 season only playing 6 OL's because to play any others would mean burning a redshirt.
