Pittman - Wells: duel or duo?

As Long as Pittman or Beanie is in the game and running the ball I really don't think it matters. I really think Pittman will see the majority of the carries for most of the year. Remember in his freshman season when he was better than anything else we had we still suffered through Brandon Joe's carries all the time.

I think duo. I also think that this offense is going to be the most fun we have had in many years. Remember hanging it on Rice? Well, Tressel won't let 70 points happen on anyone but there's gonna be some real playing time for the 2's and 3's this year because of the combination of this duo and Mr T. Rocket Arm in the backfield.

I thought Brandon Joe was a pretty good FB - Man he tore up Michigan. It was sitting through Lydell Ross's fumbles and side-to-side actions I remember OSU nation being upset about.

I think Pittman will get most of the carries, but rest asure Tressel is a great enough ball coach to know that you dont let a player like Beanie Wells ride pine, especially in a year we will be banking on our offense.

How's CWells' ball security, I don't doubt he tries, but is he used to the hits he'll take in college, is he ready for the LBs/DBs going for the strip? Yards are great, but I want to know that the ball isn't getting turned over. Pittman only had 2 fumbles last year on 243 carries. He knows how to protect the ball, and I think we don't take that into consideration enough at times. Clearly JT also thinks this is important, MWells got his chance against michigan and quite literally dropped the ball, he didn't see the field after that.

I agree 100%. That happened to Snitker a few times last year, the boy just had wax on his hands for some reason. And if theres anything Tressel hates the most, its turnovers.

Wells took some big hits in the spring game and held on, but the thing that impressed was that he did most of the hitting. I would not want to be on the scout team during this guys career.

If someone can email this thread to Maurice Wells it would be a great thing.

I hope Mwells is feeding off of this. :wink2:

That aside, I can't argue with what I saw at the 'shoe this spring when Cwells was very smooth with the rock- blocking skills will improve with the Freshmans' Fall training and coaching. I think CWells will garner his share by early October if MWells gets morphed into another spot. If MWells mans up, we may see the fruits of this competition through the next few years.............

Pittman is too good. Barring injury he will get the lion's share of the carries this season. If Beanie turns into Eddie George by game 5, Pittman will still be the starter- but they may share carries equally.
Of course, Maurice Wells and Erik Haw (barring an impending transfer to UCLA- who doesn't want him, apparently) may have something to say about it.

This is such a nice change from a couple years ago

SIBLING (NON)RIVALRY

On and off the field, Pittman and Wells foster a friendship closer than brothers

By Marla Ridenour

Beacon Journal sportswriter

GLENDALE, ARIZ. - Personal rivalry and envy could have destroyed their relationship.
It would have been easy for Ohio State junior tailback Antonio Pittman to look at freshman Chris ``Beanie'' Wells, a Parade high school All-American, as a threat to take his starting job, and so ditch the friendship they formed growing up in Akron.
