Post 23 Season tOSU Coaching Changes

So Dennis has been in the QB room since 2020, overseeing and helping the development of Fields and Stroud. We all know McCord has nowhere near the talent of those 2, so why pin McCords in-game struggles against Dennis who has a solid track record? Especially If Brown or Lincoln balls out in this bowl or next year - it completely nukes your argument.

If Brown is better, why was McCord starting all year?
It seems to me they're of a similar talent level.

Glad we have a thread for this topic rather than shotgunning it across various threads. My thoughts on each position coach:

QB: Our play here has been pretty damn good, even McCord played pretty well, though you could certainly argue he did not progress throughout the year like you would hope for a third year QB. Day is the true QB coach if we are being honest but yeah, I don't think Dennis is a QB guru on his own. That said, pretty damn good recruiter and as long as Day is here, I think he is fine for the '24 season.
RB: Alford is safe, I can keep that short and simple.
WR: Hartline is a stud, just hope we can keep him onboard for '24 but I think we will. As an OC, we will see for next year.
TE: Bailey is a good recruiter and we finally implemented TE's in the passing game under him (and at the end of Wilson's tenure). We should definitely bring him back for '24, but we will see if Stover was the sole reason for success or if Bailey can coach the position. The cupboard is not bare though and Thurman has star potential, so we will see what happens but so far I have not been disappointed with Bailey.
OL: Frye is on extremely thin ice to me, I think it was a good hire on paper by Day to replace Stud, but it's not working out so far. He is the OL coach/"Run Coordinator". If we tally all that up, here is what I have. He inherited a fantastic starting OL walking in and the results were pretty good, but was it just having Parris Johnson, Dawand, Wypler, Jackson, M Jones, etc.? Then the OL play this year was not good, though it improved some along the season. Run blocking was atrocious until November and he was supposed to be in charge of that. In terms of recruiting, we are missing on most of the recruits that Frye was brought in to land...the list is long and that is more of a recruiting thread subject, so I won't bother to put the list of the recruiting misses here other than to mention that is a huge factor in retention. The one thing he did was get Simmons here and while he struggled early, he looks promising and thank the heavens we landed him here. If we fire Frye after NSD, I won't be upset at all. But I think he should get one more year to coach the OL that is returning and then make an ultimate decision. The guys we brought in at OL under Frye were basically softballs in terms of getting the commitment, but there are several guys I think can be good...Montgomery, Siereveld, Padilla, Moore, Armstrong twins, VanSickle. But he has to hit the portal hard and develop what he has, or he is gone after the season.
DL: Not going to have anything novel to say, he is a legend and amazing coach, but just needs replaced immediately for recruiting...we are a train wreck at DL recruiting to the point where I don't know that I have a suggestion for how to fix it. With all that NIL money we are not spending, we need to throw it to a coach that can bring in recruits. Not a criticism to LJ at all, he has been amazing for us...it is just the time to hang up the whistle. Said it before on here, but there has to be a way where he can consult and be around the WHAC. That would help keep our players intact and transition to the next coach. To me this position is the biggest issue that needs addressed, we need a clear succession plan while also keeping on LJ Sr in the maximum capacity possible...I don't get paid to figure that out, but that is what needs to happen.
LB: We are good there, no worries other than Lil Animal needs a step up somewhere. We'll see how Simon/Hicks/Powers goes, but no real concerns there.
CB/S: We are doing great here too, no need for discussion.
Special teams: We all know...no need to say it.

Is this factual or message board nonsense?
You can call it nonsense but based on what I've seen and read its factual. when's the last time we heard bout St Valentines day massacre workout? or the Harley workout.... guys are bulking up but seem stiff (Hendo is a prefect example look at his running Freshman vs Junior year)... the OL does not seem to be getting any push.. and I'll quote from the Ryan Day thread below....

The Bosa's have gone on record saying that Mick has been one of the worst S&C coaches in their careers. Teaching mainly to bulk and strength training, with little flexibility and modern science intertwined.

Notice how Marotti is barely mentioned in this article on the Bosa brothers. Another athletic trainer is getting all the praise. The meathead process from Marotti is no longer working as we're seeing constant nagging injuries from guys who are taught more to lift heavy than combine lifting with stretching techniques like most other programs.

I mean.....you're using message board posts to back it up ......
thats fine... If I'm wrong I'm wrong... I just look at what's happened on the field in terms of the types of injuries and how long it's taking to come back from them, the lack of push from OL & DL.

Day is has done himself 0 favors in all of this by keeping everything related to injuries in a SCIF...

What favors, though? What does he owe anybody in terms of letting Joe Fan know injury news?

I know I'm being argumentative, and I'm not doing it on purpose. But every time something negative happens this fanbase always needs to place blame. Someone got hurt, whose fault? A guy missed a block, which coach did it wrong? And I'm not excluding myself......because I've been on witch hunts against Beck and Bill Davis and now Fleming. But there's nothing really connecting the injuries to Marotti or the field turf other than fans making guesses. Eventually those guesses are just accepted facts.

Tim Beck sucks? Fact.
Bill Davis and Fleming not deserving staff spots? Fact.
Marotti is to blame for injuries and lack of toughness? Opinion so far, in my IMO.

I have a cousin who is a OSU grad and works for a player monitoring / consultant company. I saw him in September at my Mom's funeral. He works with a large number of college programs (including OSU) and the NFL. I asked him his opinion of Coach Mick. Mainly positive and nothing negative to say. I'll try to reach to him again and get some additional info if possible.

thats fair, and absolutely Day owes us nothing, but I think Birm said something like - if you don't give us anything, how are we supposed to evaluate the job you've done ....now thats everyone who is not his boss judging him... I get it that so I agree he owes us nothing but in the court of public opinion might hurt a little.

RE: Marotti - there's a decent chance he's not actually involved as much with the S&C and perhaps my opinions are misplaced, but something is off in the S&C dept, just a gut feeling/completely opinion... based on what has happened the last several years ....

Well Birm kind of has a monetary incentive to normalize the coaching staff giving out all the info.
