QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

Maybe the X and O guys can tell me for sure but I don't think I saw Barrett have the offense in the wrong play very often, if at all.

I bring it up because that is what I think the true test of a young QB is more so than his passing stats (which were fine).

Can you read a defense under fire, make the right call based on the read and then execute?

For the most part I think he was pretty great at 1 and 2. Execution was solid.

Would love to know more from the game film analyzers out there.

Would've loved for him to have audibled out of that stupid-ass sweep inside the 10. Or at least, not pitch it when he saw it was dead to rites.

On a more serious note, I would say that I agree with you whole-heartedly.

He's quite the accurate passer and has more arm strength then it sounded like prior to the game on Saturday. He's more than servicable back there he's going to win us a lot of football games with his arm. His legs were pretty good too though he won't make guys look too stupid in the open field trying to tackle him. Take what they give you and then go on to live and fight another day. I am excited to watch him play more football. Guys up front have to do their jobs.

Very excited for the future with JT. But as far as accuracy went, he was ok but not great. The long throw to Devin was good even though under thrown since he was so open, but some of his other throws past 10 yards had receivers (dontre specifically) having to make or try to make difficult catches. Probably 20%-25% of his yardage were on screens or fake handoffs. Including one of his TD's. So while I am very excited for the future, I won't pretend that he had a fantastic game. Very good considering the situation, but just good in a vacuum.

I think he made a couple of bad reads in the read option, but other than that he seemed to do really solid. One of the things the coaches continually mentioned about him is his intelligence and preparation, and that looked legitimate yesterday for the most part.
That's what I thought as well. It will be interesting to see what happens when the opposing team is bigger and more athletic than Navy. The great news is that we get to see exactly that next week. I'm excited to see what happens.

A thing of true beauty. Behold "The Distribunator". True, 1st game, some mistakes, but it boggles my mind, the things to come. :urban2:

:oh:

Agreed, an awesome performance. Greatly exceeded expectations, except possibly for expectations on BP. He is a keeper. I mean I have watched plenty of games where the performance from QB left me in despair.

Just counting the number of deep passes overthrown in the last decade is enough to drive anyone crazy.

Fcuking crazy good, under the circumstances. We can't understand the pressure that kid was under and his performance was outstanding given the metric I read over and over this week: just be you, don't try to be Braxton, facilitate and distribute, etc. The one time it looked to me like he tried to do to much he wound up throwing the pick. It happened relatively early and like Urban said, it didn't seem to rattle him and he didn't do it again. This kid is a player. Mentally strong. I'll take him in East Lansing in November. O-muthafcuking-H!

There was also the receiver screen to the right side early that should've been a pick six. That wasn't him trying to do too much. It's just an unnecessarily risky play. I hope we fix that. I saw it in his spring game film and it worried me.

man, you grade pretty harshly. Braxton had 80% completions and 225 yards passing ONCE in three years.
so freaking what if most of JT's yards came on screens and play action. he got the ball where it needed to go.
