QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

This is a JT Barrett thread so hopefully we will get back to him soon but I have to add that Steve Young, along with being and incredibly gifted runner was the single most accurate passer I've ever witnessed. His ability to hit receivers in stride was something I've rarely seen before or after. I was never a Niners fan, but Young was simply incredible.

Soooo, turning this back around to JT, if he could be a poor man's Steve Young, well hell yeah, give me that.

" excuse me, Mr. Matcar, a Mr. Kurt Warner for you on line one".

Have to give the nod to JT at this point. We have tons of playmakers in this offense, the only thing missing is getting to ball to them consistantly. Need a lot more out of the intermediate and deep passing game, there's no team in the country that has 3 lock down corners to run with our 3 starting recievers. Someone has to be open, or they're holding. I don't like all the trips formations to the wide side of the field, we have to split one reciever to the short side and make their defense spread out and cover both halves of the field in the secondary.

Tough decision to make this week. I think they need to find their guy and stick with it. Starting to become the not having a quarterback at all.

Why would you insert JT into the offense based on LAST week? He arguably looked worse than Cardale. The entire offense looked bad to me. Not just the QBs. That was proven when JT barely moved the ball 30 yards after a turnover to go up 14-0.
This. JT looked bad as well. I'd say get the QB spot figured out by B1G play. Treat NIU and WMU as 2 more preseason games. Truthfully our schedule is so easy until MSU that we could experiment for the next 8 weeks and still win by 17+. But yea, you want the QB position determined much earlier than the msu game in order to get them the majority if #1 snaps and gamete me experience before that game.

I thought JT looked good in the two TD drives he led. He had a few passes he over threw which caused the Offense to stall but overall I think he was the better field general and seemed to be more in control of the Offense.

Much of the cause for being out of rhythm though throughout the entire game was bad snaps, play calling and miscues. It was really just a sloppy performance. Throw in that Hawaii schemed well and played hard and we see why the Offense struggled in some cases. It still scored 31 points despite it all!

State Penn is a joke, but their undying jealousy means they play up to us if given the chance (2014) and shows their true worthlessness if you don't (2013).
I'd rather not give them the chance this year and straight plunger them. Can't play like this against that cult.

That said, I think the problem is OLine more than either QB.
Cardale looked flat across the board -- emotionally, everything. He didn't look himself for the entire game. Like somebody he knew just died or something ? Barring any news like that, it was just bizarre and that's concerning.

JT looked rusty but seems rather unfair to call him out on the 30yd drive. He had an errant pass to Brax but still converted 1sts completing another to Brax and Samuel and his run gave us 1st and goal on the 1yd line.
The lowlights of that drive was: False Start by OL, Eze losing 5 on that 1st and goal

The offense had a gaggle of dumb penalties and Billy Price has been getting whipped on passing downs so far this year , even when the level of competition was terrible.

The blocking on running plays was sloppy and uninspiring on many downs which is typically their calling card.

Let's hope they were just unfocused and tired (at least mentally).

Yea it's the OL that's concerning me. I made excuses for them against VTech with talent... now we're making excuses against Hawaii on a short week... getting a little worried that Warriner's duties have led to a lapse there. A lapse that shouldn't be happening -- 4/5 returning starters shouldn't need Warriner to babysit them.
With all the talk about the Freshmen and backup lines being amazing... is it too early to ask if we'll see competition reopened? 2 weeks to figure this out before B1G play start, maybe a 3rd week since Maryland's defense is 11 traffic cones.

Eze going 27/101yds ... jesus... I know people want to feed him, but I don't want to see him taking 25 carries a game until MSU. And sure as hell not against the likes of Hawaii.

I really need to rewatch the game. I wasn't paying attention most of the time as I was nursing a sick friend. Does anyone know where I can do this?

As far as the blocking though, it looked to me like we missed a lot of blocks on the exterior. Running backs, h-backs, and receivers. I thought the O-Line looked pretty good. With a good watch this opinion may change. I hope not!

And with Cardale we only had to move the ball 6 yards after a turn over and nadda and JT most certainly didn't look worse. Take off the blinders dude.
