RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

The hype surrounding a player and teams most certainly carries over from year to year. I dont think a stronger performance would have locked it up, but it keeps the players/teams at the forefront of writers/pundits minds.

Exactly. His performance down the stretch last year solidified him as one of the frontrunners (the favorite, imo), for the upcoming year. But to make it sound like the voters are ready to turn in their ballots before the season even starts sounds crazy to me.

Troy became the favorite in a lot of minds after torching N_tre _ame with ease in the Fiesta Bowl. He certainly didn't become the favorite, but became a favorite. Beanie did the same with the scUM game and that sick run against LSU. Actually it may go back to that 2nd half decimation of Wisky.

Way too deep a field this year for anybody to be labeled a clearcut favorite.

I was purposely trying to be a little outlandish in my statement, but you get the point. The pundits already have Wells as a top three candidate with Rivals having him as the top candidate. A 200+ yd performance against LSU, the media darling, would've opened a lot of eyes and perhaps made Wells the prohibitive favorite in the Heisman contest.

I would love for Beanie to become the next OSU Heisman trophy winner, but to give credit where credit is due, Tebow is back this season and if he has a repeat of that last outrageous season with more wins, he has to be the favorite again.

I think its bad timing with Beanie and Tebow against each other. Tebow is a beast, I cannot lie! No one can count out Beanie though, maybe if he doesn't win the Heisman, he comes back another year....with TP under center..?

i don't see tebow having anywhere near the same stats as last year since they now have a running game with moody.

I don't think they want to give it away twice in a row again. Beanie for Heisman - '08.

You have to consider that Tebow has already proven what he can do. He's going to be the player regardless who else is anywhere on the field. They also have Harvin back who is ridiculous at WR,and will demand the ball more then ever.People can say all the negative things about Tebow, but if he was the qb for OSU last year I think a lot of the guys on here would have a different opinion. He put up stupid stats in the SEC,and was a soph..

I was discussing this yesterday with a friend of mine. Tebow's numbers might get him another trophy with similar stats, but I do definitely agree that it is going to probably be harder.

Olin Buchanan's Top 10 Heisman Candidates for 2008. Beanie is #1.
Buchanan's commentary about "Shady" McCoy reads thus:

7. LeSean McCoy, RB, Pittsburgh
BUZZ: McCoy is living up to the promise he showed when Rivals.com ranked him as one of the top 10 perp school prospects in the class of 2007. ...
I was unaware McCoy had confrontations with the law, but Buchanan must know better.

ESPN: Chat with Mel Kiper - SportsNation

Mel Kiper did not follow standard operating procedure set forth by The Enterainment and Sports Programming Network (or ESPN) to verify Ohio State and No #1 can be used in the same sentence and will be subsequently fired for these actions.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention,
