Really great news; it will be awesome to see this on the Buckeyes' helmets today!

Can anybody explain to me why, since I never met either Stefanie or Chris, my eyes tear up so badly every time I visit this thread, or read anything about the Spielman family?

Because you are a human and a buckeye. And because this is a positively heartbreaking situation.

Couldn't tell you. I'm not tearing up either....I just have something in my eye.

I don't imagine any football game can take away the pain that the Spielman family is still feeling, but I hope today gave them a couple hours of distraction and a ray of happiness, no matter how slight in comparison to the sadness.

A football game can do virtually nothing to take away from the loss for Chris and their 4 kids this week, but I loved the pink Buckeye leaves on the 'SS' helmet sticker, and the fact that The Game went the way of the Good Guys today.

RIP Stefanie. Your too-short life was filled with strength, dignity, and grace.

You know, another thing about the SS tribute stickers this week; if we would have been wearing our standard uni's that sticker would just have been one of many. Since we were wearing the whites, it allowed the sticker to really stick out. Made it clear that the helmets were a tribute to Stephanie. Thought that was pretty cool.

Great point and very poignant in the fact that it was so evident....It is always a terrible thing when these types of things happen to fantastic people....

Football world remembers Stefanie Spielman
Posted by Michael David Smith on November 22, 2009

Stefanie Spielman, the wife of former NFL linebacker Chris Spielman, is being remembered this weekend by the football community as a woman who fiercely battled breast cancer until her death Thursday at the age of 42.

Fans at Michigan Stadium observed a moment of silence prior to Saturday's game against Ohio State (where Chris Spielman was an All-American), and Stefanie was also memorialized before today's game in Detroit between the Lions (where Chris started his career) and the Browns (where Chris ended his career).

"The Lions' family is deeply saddened with the passing of a good friend. Stefanie touched the hearts of everyone who knew her," said Lions president Tom Lewand. "With her strong faith and Chris' devoted support, Stefanie smiled in the face of adversity and used her battle with cancer to help countless others. She was and always will be an inspiration. Our heartfelt prayers and thoughts go to Chris and the family."

Calling Hours To Be Held Today For Stefanie Spielman
Monday, November 23, 2009

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Public calling hours will be held Monday for Stefanie Spielman, who died last week after an 11-year battle with breast cancer.

The public can pay respects from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Longaberger Alumni House on Olentangy River Road.

Spielman, the wife of ex-Buckeye and NFL linebacker Chris Spielman, waged a public battle against breast cancer after she was diagnosed with the disease in 1998.

She and her husband worked tirelessly to raise breast cancer awareness and to form Stefanie's Champions, which raised millions of dollars for Ohio State's James Cancer Hospital.

Ohio State football players and coaches paid tribute to Spielman on Saturday in their game against the University of Michigan.

A sticker, with Spielman's initials and a pink Buckeye leaf, was placed on each player's helmet. Coach Jim Tressel wore the sticker on his signature sweater vest.
