S Orhian Johnson (official thread)

Johnson visiting Ohio State

Boca Ciega quarterback/defensive back Orhian Johnson is in Columbus, Ohio, to visit the Buckeyes. Ohio State is recruiting Johnson as a defensive back.

"The (Ohio State) coaches were up front with me and said I would be in the secondary," Johnson said. "They said in time I could line for a few plays on offense."

Up next for Johnson is a trip to USF on Jan. 18. The Bulls want him as a quarterback. Johnson already has visited Indiana and will schedule a trip to Tennessee.

"Right now, I plan on making a decision on national signing day," Johnson said. "But if a school feels right, I'll make a decision before that."

We seem to have way more scholarships available than everyone thought, which is great news. How many under-the-radar recruits has Tressel gotten- especially from Florida- and they ended up being studs? This is great news if he commits.

Safety?

It sounds to me IMO that Orhian really like tOSU but is not that enamored with playing DB-Safety. I think he wants to play QB first and then WR second. He probably wants to take all his visits and see how the other schools will use him. Since Domicone is a guaranteed commit at safety I just don't see Orhian coming here. Just my take.

I agree! And now that we just got another commitment from Martin, that leaves what I think is gonna be 3 schorlarships open (due to the speculation on the tranfers of possibly Schoenhoft, Dukes and Lyons), and 4 if Laurinaitis leaves. It's gonna be tight for us recruiting him now, as we pursue and have genuine shots at getting Terrelle, Josh, Keith and Brandon!

Some offers are contingent...others are guaranteed. Jenkins, Pryor and Wells' offers are guaranteed. Johnson's was not. The class filled up. Some debate whether he actually had an offer or not (maybe the staff said "come for a visit and we might offer"). Regardless, it appears the staff is going in another direction...and it has nothing to do with Jenkins, Pryor or Wells.
