Game Thread San Diego State Aztecs at tOSU, Sep 7, 3:30 ET, ABC/ESPN2

Did we blitz Buffalo at all? OK, I do remember a corner blitz of some sort. One. We had a lot of young guys playing a passive defense mostly and they did fine. Reeves got picked on from the get go but that was expected.
Decker getting schooled was not expected but give credit to Mack and coach Lou Tepper.
With Robey back and a week of work for the young guys we should look even better against SDSU. But, there is some strange history here.

It's the last part of what you said that I hope isn't materializing. I will say this I thought the defense looked better than last years opener.

I'll wait to make any statements on the defense until I see us with Roby back. The impact you can make with him is immense and sliding Grant to the #2 makes me extremely confident as I felt he played a pretty solid game last week. Buffalo has a more talented offense, IMO, than SDSU.

Last Saturday it was fairly warm in Ohio Stadium. I saw a Dispatch article where 150 people were treated for heat exhaustion, etc. I lucked out and had shade from the bell tower the first half; and the 4th quarter was mostly overcast.

However, today would be a great day for a football game in Ohio Stadium (Columbus); i.e. 68°, overcast, and a nice breeze. Let's hope this weather continues through Saturday.

The "D" played better than I first thought. They did only give up 13. I'll take that every week!
We missed Shazier badly when he went out and Fickell got more conservative with pressure.
Reeves was getting schooled but all he lacks is experience and a little more height!
D. Grant was solid and quiet in a good way!
Pittsburgh Brown fell down on the TE's touchdown.
C. Grant got caught on the TE's touchdown. That shouldn't have happened. He was in position to make a play but didn't react in time. And the safety had fallen down.
The "D" is further along than last year and LBer doesn't look like the problem last year.

After watching the replay of last weeks game It really confirmed what I felt. The pressure was there and the line got really good push and we appear bigger upfront as well as more explosive. What buffalo did well was get rid of the ball quick and attacked our inexperienced corner to their advantage.

I feel sdsu will do much of the same as it always is when teams play us. Quick passing outside and screens with some steady runs to negate our speed and athletic ability on defense. I would love to see our guys come out and just be consistent for the whole game.

I think the defense played fine. When you had an offense that gave them a short field a few times on top of a pick-six, its going to look "bad", especially when your offense can't sustain a few drives to allow the defense to rest.

Its not like Buffalo is going to sit back and *not* attack where OSU is vulnerable. They knew that OSU was going to field a very young CB, and exploited that... Who wouldn't? OSU held their own on defense.. I think they did well for having so many new players. There is only one place to go from here (for them), and that is up. Given that the team went from routinely giving up 30pts a game to essentially shutting down Michigan for the last 30 minutes of the game, I think they're in a very good position, especially with Roby getting back.

I say in the battle of motivation, OSU comes out of the gate next week, and pummels SDSU into the ground - 55-10.

52-10. The team doesn't quite put a whole game together yet but improvement in sustained ass kicking is noticeable. We tap 70-75% of our potential from our young team in their second week or the score would be worse.

After re-watching last weeks game i am convinced we did not game plan for Buffalo...leaving Decker and Reeves on islands against the only two threats was more about seeing what we had then crushing Buffalo. We could've doubled Mack and Nuetz, or ran plays away from Mack and they wouldn't have been a factor. Thats what coordinators do. I hope we aren't so conservative this week..yes I like the win but if we are playing not to lose how can we develop depth and our freshman. If the coaches don't have confidence in our O and D against Buffalo..we are in trouble. The hype from the WHAC was we were going to be more aggressive on D and O this year. Turn the boys loose and lets see what they can do.
