Scholarship Breakdown by Position and Recruiting Class

I understand the loyalty JT has to his players, and I applaud him for it becuase you don't see many coaches out there like him. I was just saying that not only do we have a limited amount of scholarships to hand out this year to '08 recruits, but I thought it was common practice by JT and his staff to hand them out to walk-on SRs who had been with the program for 4-5 yrs, not underclassmen like Lisko/Thoma?

Not to be picky, but shouldn't Coleman be a safety not a CB?

For that matter Heyward is more DE than DT...

But at that level of detail it doesn't matter. Having a chart like this that is consistently updated is an amazing feature for a free site IMO.

Both have been changed. Also moved Torrence to WR and Clifford to CB from ATH (saw Clifford getting on defense a couple times but didn't pay attention if he was at corner or safety).

It's been mainly at CB/nickelback if I am not mistaken...

Tressel is a tremendous guy... but i cant believe he gave Thoma a 3 yr scholarship... in this age of limited ships, i dont know of any coach who would give a "kick holder" a ship in a year when the team has limited schollies available, and are putting together one of their best classes ever

Close enough.

Is Hines still working with LBs? I checked his thread and the last update was about his getting some academic things squared away with the NCAA...

Yeah he is back to practice and working with the lb's...We will probably see him on special teams this weekend...

Also another headsup, Terry is going to redshirt and be back next year per Tressel's PC...

As for schollies, right now we are down to 3..With a high possibility of 1 or maybe 2 of Jenkins or Gholston leaving that only puts us at 4-5 open spots left unless guys like Robo, Animal Jr., Boone leave but I really hope each and everyone of the 5 I have listed above return, b/c if so our team would be so dangerous next year...

But with some studs still looking at us like Pryor, Jenkins, Mobley, Thomas, Flyod, Hale, Sabino, etc. Tressel is going to have his money cut out for him getting those guys in if they want to come...

Also hearing that Lisko may be graduating this year, so he would be off scholarship...

Though he is not being talked about a lot in terms of leaving early, but I think Marcus Freeman has the ability to do so. He has been here for a while and has incurred some injuries along the with, and having the responsability of a daughter now he made see a need for NFL money. He has shown flashes of living up to his potential this year and is playing a a very high level. If he keeps it up throughout the year, he and Larry Grant could be two guys that help keep the tradition of LBs to come out of Ohio State strong.

Unless he plays the rest of the season like he did against Minny, he is not going to go any higher than the 5th round, so I just don't see him leaving...

If he plays the rest of the season like he did against Minny, well there may be that possibility...

I was just thinking yesterday after talking to a walk-on football player at my school, that isn't it possible that Tressel gave the schollies to the walk-on underclassmen with the knowledge that it would only be for this year? Scholarships are renewed on a year-by-year basis, no?

It's possible the coaches only have one schollie available, assuming Terry gets redshirted. And yes Milli, we will wait for it to be official. :tongue2:

Assuming Terry is redshirted, I think we could expect:
2-3 Transfers/leave the team due to: attitude problems, lack of playing time, academic casualties etc. etc.
3 maybe 4 early departures (NFL)
1-2 Medical waivers

I'm guessing they will have 6 scholarships plus 1 for a total of 7 schollies available. Incidently, I doubt the coaches will fill all of their available schollies. When was the last time they didn't have any schollies left after NLOID? I'm guessing at this point in time, they will sign 5-6 more players.

Per Tressel presser, Lisko is a senior who will graduate this academic year, so I moved him from junior to senior, which increases are available schoolies to three...which will account for Terry's medical redshirt schollie if he gets it.
