Recruiting on television

Not too many blue-chippers are uncommitted. Offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson of St. Paul, Minn., the nation's No. 1 player, is a huge story, not just because he is 6-8 and weighs 330 pounds. He is an impact player and no one knows where he is going. His father is the only person in his son's camp who is talking to anyone.

Henderson will be in our studio to make his official announcement during the telecast on Wednesday. He visited Miami this weekend. I thought USC would be his choice until coach Pete Carroll left for the Seattle Seahawks. Now my guess is Ohio State. But he still is considering USC, Ohio State, Miami, Florida, Notre Dame and Minnesota.

Kid and his family are getting a trip to NYC out of it.

Seantrel deserves any perks that he gets out of being the number 1 recruit in the nation. I think he deserves to announce any way he wants to.

As far as being a "Jim Tressel" type of announcement, I don't think Tress cares at all about how kids announce...as long as they announce they are coming to Ohio State.

ESPN $ - OT Henderson visits Miami

Kurelic "thinks" it's down to Ohio State & Southern Cal.

"The momentum seems to be in the Trojans' favor two days before he announces his college choice."

What momentum? He was in Miami all weekend and beyond that there's been no spoken hints of leaning one way or the other from Seantrel or his father who are the only two people that might have an idea if there actually is a favorite. Are we to presume the momentum from sportswriters guessing as a whole has some sort of influence on the decision?

DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH

? Seantrel Henderson, OL, Saint Paul (Minn.) Cretin-Derham Hall: The consensus No. 1 offensive line recruit in the country made five official visits: Notre Dame, Ohio State, USC, Miami, Florida. But he has never showed the Gators an overwhelming amount of interest. Expect Henderson to stay in the midwest.

He is referring to Kiffin's recent in home visit. LINK

So CBS pays for the trip? Didn't know they could do that.

The Curious Case Of Seantrel Henderson

I have admired the way Henderson?s father ? Sean Henderson ? has handled the recruiting process. He has spoken of stability, honesty, academics ? all the right things. Relationships with the coaching staff were also an important factor, he said.
Well, you can throw all of that out the window if Henderson inks with the Trojans roughly 48 hours from now.

...
Then again, maybe the Hendersons are just trying to keep everyone guessing. Either way, they appear to be having fun with the recruiting process ? which is certainly their right ? and it will be interesting to see where the chips fall on Wednesday.

Seantrel Henderson, OL, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin Derham-Hall
Player rank (position rank): 7 (1)
Ohio State is the team to beat for the nation's top offensive line prospect, but Southern California believes that it has a legitimate shot and has made a push down the stretch. Also, Henderson had a good trip to Miami during the weekend. With all that being said, the Buckeyes' chances are greater than 50 percent.
Projection: Ohio State| Confidence: High

Shooter Now: Minnesota Gophers light up stadium to impress prep star Seantrel Henderson
By Charley Walters
Updated: 02/01/2010 12:21:22 PM CST

No one can say the University of Minnesota Gophers didn't do their best in their football recruitment of offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson of Cretin-Derham Hall.

On Sunday evening ? four days before the 6-foot-8, 335-pounder is scheduled to announce his college decision on national TV ? coach Tim Brewster and his staff made a gallant effort to convince Henderson, who is among the nation's elite prospects, that he should remain in Minnesota.
During a 2 1/2-hour presentation on campus, the Gophers had their TCF Bank Stadium lit up, and there were assorted visuals featuring Henderson so he could see himself as a Gophers star. Included was a seven-foot cutout of Henderson with a No. 77 Gophers jersey, his high school number.
A No. 77 jersey also hung at the Gophers football offices at the Bierman complex.

The Gophers staff even created a Henderson logo to show him he could become a "brand" at Minnesota. And Henderson was able to play an X-Box video game in Brewster's private suite at TCF Bank Stadium. Two dozen pizzas were brought in among a display of balloons.
