the lantern is not a reliable source...last year they reported the cavs aquired amare stoudamire in a trade with the suns...thats just one example that pops out of my head....this morning on rivals radio a guy who runs the Miami Hurricanes site said he thinks it will come down to SC and the U for henderson based on the fact his parents had "supposedly" said they want to live in a warm weather climate....i think hes wrong and henderson and his parents want to stay in the midwest and go to tOSU

Oh I know, just having some fun with all three versions of Seantrel we're supposedly getting, it was intended to poke fun at the credibility or lack thereof of the Lantern.

I'm curious as to what you're basing this on, because it's contrary to everything that's been written so far.

I base it on the fact that he was an USC lean before Petey left the program. So the only thing that has changed is the coach. The family and the prospect doesn't seem to mind Kiffin's move and actions. So the only remaining issue was the meeting that took place with Kiffin and the Henderson clan. As far as the pro OSU articles, most focused on the stability of OSU vs Fla or USC. That was the only real advantage OSU had in this situation. From all accounts the meeting with Kiffin went better than expected.

I usually always defend a recruits decision wherever they go. But to be blatantly honest, with sleazer Kiffin headed to the already sleaz-tastic USC, I really can't envision defending it now. If I had a kid and his only offer was from wherever Lane Kiffin was coaching, I would find a way to pay for his school. Being completely honest.

...which is "only" the biggest reason that recruits often decide to sign with a particular school.

I would normally agree with that statement, but all situations aren't the same. In this case you have Kiffin selling himself as a Petey clone. He worked under him and was part of USC. So he presents himself as USC..not the dirtbag failure that he really is....according to Henderson "he did what was best for his family"..I"m sure that Petey has endorsed him to potential recruits.

As a recruit, if I was being courted by Kiffin after all the crap I've heard about him and knowing the kind of person he is there is no way I'm going there. I would know that the only reason he would come off as a good guy to me is simply because he's doing whatever he can to get me on his team.

I think for a lot of people it would be really easy to see right through people like that.

FYI, that article contains no support for any of the conclusions that the author reaches.

Huh? It's all speculation..every single article you read about recruiting..it is however a Minny newspaper, not some guy in North Dakota. I just posted that article as an interest only piece...

It's gotta be a lot more cost effective then sending a bunch of crews to the 'Burg to see a kid say that he ain't signing today. :paranoid:

I believe TP called media members a few days beforehand to let them know he wasn't going to decide on signing day but they showed up anyway. I don't believe that is the case here (at least nothing has been announced about a delay). lemming doesn't strike me as the type of guy who would allow that to happen. However, stranger things have happened.

You're confused. Of course recruiting articles speculate regarding where a recruit may choose to play, but often when a recruiting publication speculates that a recruit may choose a particular school, the article contains factual support (e.g., "the recruit said ..." or "according to the recruit's family, ...") for its speculative conclusion. The article you quoted contained absolutely no factual basis on which to base its conclusion that USC is the favorite. Go back and read the article if you think otherwise.

it is however a Minny newspaper, not some guy in North Dakota.

So simply because the author is from Minnesota, he suddenly has credibility? Especially when he provides no support for his headline? OK. :roll2:
