SF Eric Wallace (Official Thread)

Wallace has been my sleeper since last year......he cannot teach the level of athletic ability he has.......give Matta some time to coach him and the sky is the limit. :wink2:

Wallace just looked awesome to me yesterday at the open scrimmage! I don't know what else to say! He is ready to play right now.

He handled the ball well. Looked confident shooting and has very good technique. Jumps right straight out of the gym. Has a nose for the ball whether it's loose or coming off the glass. Works hard on defense. Wow!

That sequence when Lighty got out ahead of everybody for an easy dunk and Wallace caught him and cleanly blocked the shot was just stunning to see. I feel so sorry for the rest of the big ten! :osu:

I don't think Wallace got into the game at all last night. Is he really that raw or is he in the doghouse for some reason? I would have expected him in the game during the last few minutes at least.

Turner looked good in the first half though.

In the first Exh. game he looked awesome, and I thouht wow this kid is great already. Then in the second he looked like a freshman.
As junkie says he is just raw and needs to develop.

Thanks.

He's probably the guy I'm most looking forward to seeing in extended action - although KK has been fun already and I'm really looking forward to Diebler finding his stroke. But, Wallace is a big guy with an insane highlight video, and I think we're going to see some special plays from him before he's gone.

Yup, he is farther along with his shot than I expected, but he has to work on his all around game, but he will see some minutes as the season goes on...
Agree 40, he looks like a pro physically right now and will be a force in the middle as he develops.

Ohio State teammates have roots in Forsyth

By John Delong
JOURNAL COLUMNIST

Wallace is in a different situation, for now.

He is averaging 1.8 points in a limited role off the bench, and got his most action in the last game against VMI when he had four points and two rebounds in 10 minutes.

Wallace said he understood that playing time would be difficult to get early on.

?It?s going well,? he said. ?I?m learning a lot. They?re teaching me how to slow down and look at the game, and Coach (Thad) Matta?s doing a good job of including me into the system. My minutes are low, so that?s a little different, but as a player you?ve got to look at it like you?re getting better every day. I?m being very patient, I?m working hard, and I know that I?m getting better. They?re going to need another athletic wing player for the Big Ten season so I?ve got to be ready when my number is called.

?I still feel this is a great situation for me. I?ve just got to wait patiently and get better every day.?

?I grew up as a Tar Heel fan,? he said. ?I grew up thinking I was going to go there, and they were one of my earliest offers. Of course, my plans changed and I wound up coming here, but it?s going to be special. I got a chance to play in the arena last year at Hargrave against their JV team, and that was something big for me. So it means a lot to me to play against them.?

I am trying to figure out why this kid is not playing more......I just love his upside........I hope to see him get more minutes soon.

I agree, I just think that at times he looks lost out there, but I think with more practice time and eventually game time he will evolve into a solid player this year...

Why doesn't Eric Wallace get more PT

I don't know if the question has been talked about yet? But why doesn't Eric Wallace get more playing time? Every time I seen him play he has always impressed and he plays with aggression. There has got to be a reason why he can't crack the rotation.

That is what I'm starting to wonder. As much as Turner turns the ball over and as much time as Hill played tonight which still confuses me why he was in during the end of the game. Wallace must be pretty bad in practice or something.

I have been thinking about this as well, but you just have to think that the staff sees him in practice everyday and he is still doing things that they feel more confident with Diebler and Turner in there...I think that he will be a solid player once he starts to see time on the floor...

Maybe Wallace would not turn the ball over as much as Turner but Turner's perimeter shooting is much better than that of Wallace. Also, comparing Wallace to Hill it is like comparing.... Also, in that environment last night Wallace would not have done much better than Turner in fact it might have been worse.

Man I would really love for Eric to get some run,if only to get the team/fans hyped off one of his dunks. Of course he's raw,but a couple minutes a game can't hurt. The Buckeyes have one of the most athletic players in the country, yet nobody(including most OSU fans) knows.
