SF Sam Thompson (JB Monferrato - Italy)

Fire. When he is fired up he is near unstoppable. That lob that he had his head over the rim on was just sickening. Where did that big 3 come from???? Brilliant. Now, don't step back. Keep working and go forward from this.

Sam Thompson’s threes weren’t in Northwestern’s scouting report. A reporter asked Thompson after the game how he was able to make three of four of his shots from beyond the arc, and the junior hard an interesting response.
“If I didn’t know better I’d think you guys think I can’t shoot,” Thompson said.

Well, it hasn’t been his strong suit all year. But against the Wildcats, Thompson came off screens and was ready to shoot confidently, and in the end he had 11 points.

“We were playing well offensively, but where we lost is what we lacked on defense,” Northwestern’s Drew Crawford said. “We weren’t getting stops … (Thompson) is one of those guys who can knock down shots when he gets hot. He knocked down his first one and he started to get streaky, so we had to change our game plan on him.”

Change the game plan to defend Thompson? Combine that with what Smith and Ross, who scored a team-high 16 had, and its no mystery why the Buckeyes had their easiest win of the Big Ten schedule. It’s not fair to ask Thompson to make 3-of-4 threes every game because he hasn’t done that all year, but this is what it looks like when Ohio State doesn’t struggle shooting.

Rising up and shooting w/ confidence. Amazing what a little confidence will do. Him and Scott both. Some of those ugly looking shots find a way to fall when you shoot it w/ confidence. The ball moved on the perimeter against NW better than it has past couple of games as well. Less standing around on offense. They had NW on their heels and it resulted in freeing a lot of guys up for good, open shots off the curls, including Sam.

Can't believe no one posted on Sammy's banner day in the Tourney. Sam finished with 18 against Dayton. Had 4 rebounds and went 8 for 11 from 2 & 2 for 3 from deep.
it will be nice if he puts up those types of numbers in some games next season because they will be needed. I do not expect the same number of points but he needs to really work on his rebounding.
