Should tOSU/UT be a rivalry?

I don't think UT-OSU would really work as a "rivalry"-part of the interest came from the fact that these two legendary programs had never played each other before. To have a real rivalry, there needs to be some historical and/or geographic connection-otherwise it is just a very interesting non-conference game-which we will now have virtually ev ery year-USC, Miami,V-Tech,Oklahoma. FWIW, next years OOC schedule is very soft, w/ Washington as the only major conference school, and a very down one at that.

I think the reason it would be easy to say "yes" to this question would be because of how much fun these games were the past two seasons. I'd love to get something set up again with them a few years down the road, but I'll go with the idea of "spreading" the fun around, and setting up the home and away matchups like we have coming up. We certainly need a "rubber" matchup with Oklahoma, and with Urban Meyer's NE Ohio roots, I'd love to get a gig with Florida.

I don't know anybody that would like that schedule. Odds of going undefeated are slim and none most years...probably every year. Teams all demanding return dates don't do much for the box office, which is extremely important to the university. And, I'm sure the coaching staff wants a glorified scrimmage or two to get some looks at players and practice a thing or two.

Fans might like all of the marquee matchups, but they wouldn't be as special that way, and would slowly lose their appeal. I think what the Bucks are doing right now is on the money. Farewell, Texas...nice that our paths crossed. See you in a bowl someday.

Mili was only proposing 1 marquee OOC game per year. Three teams from 3 different conferences, but over an 18-year cycle.

I would rather see this not become a rivalry because I think the fans would get sick of going to Austin after a while. I would like to see more OOC games with teams that are close to Ohio. For instance play teams like WVU, Louisville, Va. Tech, Tennessee, Maryland, Virginia, Pitt, Georgia, S. Carolina, etc. Places that you could drive to on a Friday before the game. They may not be #1 v.#2 matchups but they have to be better than playing UC, BG, Youngstown St., Akron, etc. Then have yourself some big time schools in there like USC, OU, Miami, Texas, etc. I know OSU needs home games but we could easily have 7 home games a year scheduling these type of schools. JMO.

I like what tOSU is doing now. It would be good to play them in the regular season a couple times every 10 to 20 years.

I hope they keep rotating the marquee matchups with Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Miami. I'd be willing to add Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, and/or Nebraska in there.

Cal and Va. Tech aren't at that level historically. We may have wanted those games for geographical recruiting purposes, though.

And only 5 to 10 teams need to be in that rotation. For some reason, I'm saying the hell with ND and Tennessee.

I agree with BB73. Let's add other marquee schools so nobody can say we are afraid of anyone. I would add to his list Notre Dame. I really like beating up on Jabba the Hut.

I would love to see tOSU vs Virginia Tech

id much rather play alabama, miami, florida st., usc, oklahoma, nebraska, etc... than some fixed home and away deal with texas. thats not to say they should never be put on the schedule again. without question they should. but i think there are a lot of big names in college football that we haven't played in a while that i would like to see in my lifetime.

I dont think it really matters, with USC, Miami, Cal, VT, Oklahoma coming up on the schedule the earliest Texas would be put back on is like 2017. They're not going to put UT and USC or UT and Miami OOC in the same year and they're not going to pay to get out of those contracts. I would love to see The Bucks play Texas more often, but I like martins said theres a lot of big names I'd also like to see them play.
