SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

I find it odd that a Detroit sports website would republish this now.

5 CANDIDATES TO REPLACE MICHIGAN HEAD COACH JIM HARBAUGH

October 31, 2020

*Originally published on Sept. 23, 2019, following the Wolverines loss to Wisconsin. All stats in this post are from that date.

Matt Campbell

Matt Campbell, who is 39 years old, is currently the head coach at Iowa State.

Since being hired by the Cyclones prior to the 2016 season, Campbell has led his team to a 21-20 overall record and has been named Big 12 Coach of the Year twice (2017 and 2018).

Prior to coming to ISU, Campbell was the head coach at Toledo where he led the Rockets to a 35-15 overall record from 2011-2015, including winning two of three bowl games before leaving for Iowa State.

Campbell may be in a Power 5 conference but his coaching ability will land him a job somewhere big, it is just a matter of time.

Bob Stoops

So I really even need to sell this one?

Stoops, who is 59-year-old, was out of coaching for a bit but he is now back as head coach (and GM) of the Dallas Renegades of the XFL.

During his time at Oklahoma (1999-2016), Stoops racked up a 190-48 record, which included 11 top 10 finishes in the AP Top 25 poll, 10 Big 12 Titles, and a National Championship in 2000.

You can bet Stoops will not be in the XFL for long and Michigan could make him an offer he cannot refuse.

Kyle Whittingham

Kyle Whittingham, who is also 59-years-old, replaced Urban Meyer as the head coach at Utah in 2005. In 16 seasons with the Utes, he has an impressive 123-62 record which includes going 11-2 in bowl games.

Whittingham is currently signed with Utah through the 2020 season but if Michigan comes calling, he would certainly have to consider the opportunity.

Les Miles

This one is interesting, especially if you believe the rumors about why Les Miles was never hired by Michigan over a decade ago, but we will not get into that.

Miles, who is 65, has made it absolutely clear that he wants to be the head coach at Michigan but according to him, he has never been offered the job.

While at LSU, Miles racked up an impressive 114-34 record including a 7-4 record in bowl games. In 2007, he led LSU to a National Championship after going 12-2.

Whether or not Michigan would ever offer the job to Miles is one thing, but he is a legit candidate.

Urban Meyer

I know I am going to get killed for this one but here goes nothing.

Whether or not you hate Urban Meyer as I do, you cannot argue with the fact he is one of the most accomplished college coaches of all time.

In 17 seasons as a head coach, Meyer is 187-32!!!

But he does not just win in the regular season as he is 12-3 in bowl games.

Meyer may be hated by just about every person in Michigan but the Wolverines would be better with him at the helm than they are with Harbaugh.

I'm thinking that Bill O'Brien might be an ideal replacement, he already has 1st hand experience at finishing 2nd and 3rd in the B1G East......

Harbaugh for AD is, hands down, my favorite. I don't think that I could begin to imagine how much more screwed up things could get if they gave him the AD job. Not in my wildest dreams aided by blotter acid and a side-car of tequila, could I begin to imagine how that would go over.

We said, UTQTFS. It may come to quitting all sports.

Make Jim Harbaugh the AD and he'd probably promote one of his current assistant coaches to the head coach position.....Jay Harbaugh

So let it be written,
So let it be done,
To promote the first born Harbaugh son

Relax folks.

This is a link to the Michigan depth chart. It is why Jimbo will be back next year.

https://www.ourlads.com/ncaa-football-depth-charts/depth-chart/michigan/91119

It shows that Michigan is starting 7 sophs on offense and 6 on defense.

It also shows that all but one of the players from their second string is either a soph or a frosh.

What you have to figure out for yourself is that the quality of those younger players is not what it used to be. And that the reason they are so young is that everyone in front of them has jumped ship in one way or another. But that's cool. You still deserve another two years to win with kids that young.

I recall a similar situation for tOSU that resulted in a playoff appearance despite a considerable Tim Beck handicap.

I would put Jeff Hafley's name in that mix.

Just to get out in front of it; If they do replace him, no matter who they pick he's walking into the same scenario JimBo walked into.

OSU is a mile ahead in talent and you are going to have to recruit at that level for at least 3-4 years just to catch up. You are going to have to out recruit them to surpass them.

You have no natural recruiting territory of your own and OSU as well as ND to battle with in the midwest. You have SEC and Clemson in your way if you try the national recruiting approach.

It can be done but this isn't simple as hiring Bo. You better get a guy who can sell NFL development like nobody's business and can manage all the various factions of that arrogant, entitled organization. The reality of it is going to make it less attractive of a job than the DFBIA thinks it is...imo.

To established coaches its not a attractive job at all, you gotta think. Harbaugh for all of his "NFL experience" has had a hard enough time himself getting many top recruits up there. Imagine what its going to be like for the unnamed assistant they end up having to give a shot to.

Their 2007 and 2011 searches showed it wasn’t nearly as attractive a job as they think it is. If Simple Jim hadn’t crazied his way out of SF, 2014 would’ve likely been a shit show, as well. Jim Harbaugh, as goofy as he is, was seen as an elite coach when they hired him. What coach is going to look at him failing there and go “yeah, sign me up for that!”? I said it before, actually, many did, if Jim Harbaugh can’t right that ship, who will? He was “the guy.” He was the alumnus former QB who played for Bo and became a successful HC. He was their “homerun hire.” And he’s failed miserably. They’re proper fucked.
