SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

Maybe, just maybe the administration up there does actually have a slight clue what they're doing and are letting Jimbo go out and test the market, knowing full-well there is less than no demand for his services. Then, when he finishes up his Rainman Rumspringa and returns to the Administration to sign his extension, they'll yank it back from him and tell him that the previous offer no longer stands and throw a whole different set of terms in front of him.
Had to like it for the Rainman Rumspringa.

So a 50% base pay cut and if the incentives are typical things like beat osu, win b1g east, win b1g champ, playoffs, nc then he's very very unlikely to meet any of them. That has to be a real blow to his ego, especially if he has to take the new deal cause noone in the no fun league will take him anymore. I'm real excited to see how this works out.
No way he actually wants to be there right? And now he has to be there on half what he was making? I’m sure that will inspire the employee.

This is the best case.

This is like watching a relationship between two kids who've been dating since middle school figure out if they want to go to prom together their senior year in high school.

"So, you know.. we've been going to prom every year we've been here. You want to go again?"
"I might. But.. I want to see if there's anyone else first. The prom queen, for example. Gonna see if she's interested. You'll wait for me, right?"
"I guess."

"Anyone want to go to prom with me?"
:crickets:

"So, I guess I am ready to go to prom with you again"
"Oh, you are? Well, I guess I'm ready too. Sorta. Would you mind if we don't go out to dinner before hand and maybe just meet there? By the way, there's no dancing this year. No physical contact of any kind."
"I mean... I guess. It's not like you're the prom queen anyway."

And they're preserving the option to axe him cheaply at any point. So great.
Still doubt they axe him. They have no better options and the job isn't that desirable. Its best for both parties if he stays. Realistically, scUM is on tier with an Iowa or Minnesota. 2nd tier programs that can keep a coach around for years as long as he gets the wins he's supposed to, stays competitive in a rivalry game (occasionally wins), competes in bowl games and doesn't publicly embarasd the school. I can see a much more neutered version of Hairball going forward. Pay cut, middling talent on the roster and on the coaching staff, a fed up fan base but accepting , fed up but accepting administration, and not much being brought in on the recruiting trail.
