Don't take it personally when your thread is moved. This board runs differently than a lot of other boards out there. We like to keep all relevant info in "official" type threads so we don't end up with 20 threads about the same thing. With how active this place is, it would become a serious clusterfuck if that was allowed. So, my guess is that this will get merged into an existing thread.

As for your post, I will say I, for one, am a little concerned about how several teams on our schedule shit the bed this year. Miami was expected to be much better than they turned out. Iowa is just a team that is impossible to figure out sometimes. They've got the talent and lose when they shouldn't. Our poor output at Illinois had a lot to do with wind and an injury to Pryor as well as the fact that those fuckers always play a great game against us for some reason. PSU was down from graduation and M*ch*g*n has a dumbass running their program. To me the schedule comparisons are very valid. The Big Ten+2 isn't "down" this year however, as many like to say. It is a great conference this year, unfortunately, one of the best teams (MSU) wasn't on our schedule. As some of these Bowl games get played, we'll know a lot more about how good/bad the Big Ten+2 is/was this year. I am expecting a good showing from the conference similar to last year.

I've already said that I know very little about the Hogs. Only caught a play or two this year. But my initial impression is that they have a solid squad this year to be sure. Played a tough schedule in the strong half of the SEC this year. And except for some disappointing play in the second half of a couple games, may have been right in the mix of the MNC race. I could be wrong, so I look forward to learning more about the Razorbacks in the next month. And I am excited about this matchup as I do believe both these teams have the talent and weapons to win this game...

Edit: merged while I was typing

My question is; how physical is Arkansas at the line of scrimmage? Florida, and LSU manhandled us at the line of scrimmage.

Pretty stout.

We didn't play Florida this year, but last year we did pretty well against them. We would have killed them this year, but that's more of a statement about how awful they were than one about us.

This year vs. LSU, we absolutely man-handled a very good LSU Dline. Late in the 4th, we made them our women and were running at will on them.

Your defense may be scary good, but it has been scary good many times in the past and that has got you nothing but L's against the last 8 SEC teams you have played. I am not saying your defense is not good, but what little I have seen of the Buckeyes D this year is not as good as what I have seen in the past, and the Big 10 even with 3 teams in BCS top 12 does not seem as strong this year as it has been in years past.
1. Losses in games to SEC teams in past years have nothing to do with this year's game - just as Hogs games against other Big Ten teams in past years do not.

2. I won't argue that Ohio State's defense is as good as the best we've seen here, because I don't think it is. Our national championship team D was full of future NFL players, and I don't know that this edition is. But they're still very good.

3. You say the Big Ten seems weaker than past years; I'd say the same of the SEC. Florida with 5 losses? Bama with 3? C'mon.

To clarify, 14 of Miami's points were scored on the Bucks' special teams.

Welcome Hogtropolis. Fans outside the Big10 typically don't consider "Tresselball" clock management when analyzing an upcoming game, and the defense gets overlooked. Maybe Pac10 and Big12 fans aren't used to seeing effective defense, at least in previous years (out of sight out of mind)?

Just for some perspective... In 2002, Texas Tech and Wazzou were going to shred the defense, but they lost 48-14 and 24-7, respectively. Then the same Pac10 fans who told me that, also told me Miami would shred the Buckeyes' defense, which again didn't happen. I heard the same from other teams's fans (K State, Texas, LSU (oops!), Oregon) in later years. So, while I'm growing more accustomed to hearing predictions of 4+ TD's against the Buckeyes' defense, it's still a bit of a shock. It could happen, and has before, but it's rare. Admittedly, though, the two recent games against sec teams pretty much went the way of your prediction.

Buckeyes' dline should be better at stopping the run than they were at Wisconsin, since freshman Jonathan Hankins has been getting more playing time.

Petrino has that reputation of offensive wizardry and the team is talented. It's a good match and promises to be a great game.
Thanks for the welcome. I'm not trying to sound all high and mighty, but those teams mentioned didn't play in the SEC. I feel like this team has proven they can put up points against good defenses. I feel that we have been tested more throughout the year than Texas Tech and Wazzu were in their leagues.

While I respect the numbers that OSU has put up, I just don't feel like they've seen an offense like ours this year. Wisconsin, while they're good, doesn't throw it like Arkansas does and Miami is horrible.

If we have any Hogs out there willing, I would like to ask some questions. I am a Buckeye, but I love college football and it's history as well.

Who do most Hog fans consider their main rival? Is it LSU/somebody else in the SEC or do you consider Texas or another team from the old SWC your rival still? You're still scheduling them when possible, no?

Where do you do your recruiting? Does Arkansas have the blue chippers you need or do you raid Texas, Florida etc.?

What are your thoughts about the SWC and your move to the SEC? Do you wish for the "good ole days"? Or were the "good ole days" not so good?

Do you feel like you're an SEC team or do you still feel more aligned and have more things in common with the Texas schools?

Just interested in your thoughts about the college football landscape considering this last off season and with Nebraska now moving to join the Big Ten+2. Also, there were lots of rumors about Jerry Jones trying to build some momentum to lure the Hogs back to the Big XII. Is that something Hog fans would ever want to do or is it not even a consideration? Are you "all in" with the SEC or would you consider a move if the price and timing was right?

These are just questions from a curious mind. Will be interested in any responses and to see how younger and older fans feel about some of these questions.

I think he was saying the Big 10 seems weaker than normal just because after OSU, Wisconsin, and MSU, it doesn't really seem that there's really a good team in the league.

When you look at the SEC, I can see how it seems down with Florida, Tennessee and Georgia not being very good. When you look at the SEC-West though, there are 5 very solid teams there. Those 5 teams combined have 1 loss outside of each other and that was Bama's loss to South Carolina. We've seemed to beat each other up.

We heard the exact same thing from Oregon fans last year.

I respect the Hogs, without any question, but don't expect your offense to run wild in this game. Ain't going to happen.

Excellent Question that I believe would get a lot of different answers depending on the age of fan.

The Razorbacks don't have a natural rival. We are the only major program in the state of Arkansas and played in the SWC where everyone hate 1 team equally (Texas). So, if you spoke to the over 55 crowd then I believe most would say Texas. Everyone else would give you different answers. We have a manufactured rivalry against LSU that has turned out to be a terrific series over the past 10 years. Most have a deep hatred for Ole Miss due to the head coach that was fired. We also recently resumed a "rivalry" with aTm a couple years ago but I think it's mainly for recruiting.

As for recruiting, prior to the petrino era we recruited Texas and Arkansas with a few players here and there. Bobby Petrino is moving us in the right direction and we have been able to get recruits out of California, Arizona, Texas and every state in the South. I'd say our main recruiting ground is still Texas but we are spread out evenly through out the south. Arkansas' high school talent has made great strides over the past few years but we aren't on par with Texas, Florida, Louisiana or Ohio. We will have a handful of 4 or 5 star recruits each year.

Most fans are grateful to be a part of the SEC and understand the positive impact it has nationally for the program. You will have a few folks who would like to go to the big 12 - 2 for old recruiting ties, old rivalries and a easier schedule.

Depends on who you ask about rivalries. I'm younger (27) and I say it's LSU. Most older folks will tell you it's Texas though. I just don't understand how Texas can be considered our rival when they don't consider us as theirs. Also, we've had some pretty highly contested games against LSU recently and we play them every year for the golden boot. There's actually heated debates over this topic on Hogville.net occasionally. And I think we have a home game against Texas scheduled for 2014.

We have recently been recruiting all over. We get a handful of kids from Arkansas, add in a good number from some of our bordering states (LA, TX, OK) and the we usually get a few from all across the south as well (FL, AL, MS, GA, and MO). We've got 3 or 4 from AZ committed right now. Since Petrino has been here, we've really been recruiting nationally.

Again, some of the older folks might like to go back to the Texas conference, but most everyone is glad we are in the SEC and wouldn't want to leave. After 15+ years, we're starting to feel like we finally belong. I personally think we'd be stupid to leave the best football conference in the nation.

Hope that answers your questions.

That was week 4 of the season. With the emergence of Knile Davis, we have a much better offense now.
OK, whatever. You'll throw 50 on the slow, plodding Ohio State D and laugh at us all night long.

Forgive me; I've heard this same overplayed song way too many times.

That is very interesting. Penn State and M*ch*g*n State were set up as a manufactured rivalry here in the Big Ten+2 when PSU joined in the early 90's. I don't think either fan base really cares much about it. Hopefully our resident LSU fan can give me some insight in what LSU fans think about this rivalry. I assume the common boarder helps considerably. College football is built on these rivalries. We, as a conference will be "manufacturing" another rivalry once Nebraska comes in. I think these rivalries are what makes conferences strong and it's what makes college football sooo much better than the NFL...

Why the hatred? Did Hog fans like Nutt or is the anger that he took a job at a conference foe? Seeing his wiki page I see he was a player for the Razorbacks, but transferred to Okie State. Is that part of it too?
