Game Thread THE GAME, Sat 11/28 @ 12pm ET, ABC

What sucks about this years game is that if OSU beats UM and MSU beats PSU, I won't even enjoy it. Maybe a little, but not the way it should be.

This is the downside of first the BCS and now the playoff: 12-1, beat Michigan, won't enjoy it. Wow. I would've killed for one season like that when I was at OSU.

FILM STUDY: SCOUTING THE DEFENSE UP NORTH

As a former quarterback, Jim Harbaugh has been known more for his offensive mind throughout his tenure as a head coach at the University of San Diego, Stanford, and the San Francisco 49ers. Yet his teams have always featured excellent defenses, and although he's in just his first year running the program in Ann Arbor, his unit is already playing at a high level on that side of the ball.

After taking over a group that had performed well under the tutelage of former coordinator Greg Mattison, Harbaugh kept Mattison on as defensive line coach while adding former Florida coordinator D.J. Durkin to run the unit. Durkin saw success almost immediately with his aggressive, man-to-man defense that is rarely seen at the college level due to its complexity.

Unlike the 'quarters' look that Ohio State, Michigan State, and many other college programs run that feature two deep safeties, Durkin's defense regularly lines up with only one. Often using 'nickel' personnel with an extra defensive back on the field in place of a third linebacker, the Wolverines like to line up in one-on-one coverage on the outsides, letting the free safety play center-field behind them.

Although his squad often uses personnel designed to take away the passing game, the Wolverine defense has been very good against the run this year, ranking fourth nationally in rushing yards-allowed. Linebackers Joe Bolden (#35) and Desmond Morgan (#3) lead the team in tackles, but the 'overhang' players such as strong safety Jabrill Peppers (#5) are regularly involved in stopping the run, aggressively stepping up when they read a running play.

A MIRACULOUS REBOUND TO MAKE THE NATIONAL TITLE GAME, "EARLE" HEADBANDS & OTHER TIMES OSU PLAYED MICHIGAN FOLLOWING A LOSS

64054_h.jpg,qitok=1MdrPyPd.pagespeed.ce.NlVxh4wCvb.jpg

Ohio State's only loss this season still resonated throughout the week. Too much was at stake in terms of their national championship chances.

Although extremely unlikely to repeat itself, the 2007 season showed it's not impossible for the Buckeyes to climb back into the title picture. No other win over the Wolverines on this list was nearly as rewarding, so not much there for precedent's sake.

OSU typically heads into Michigan week with a bit of confidence, having recently won three-years straight and 11 times this century the Saturday prior.

2011: LOSS TO PENN STATE, LOSS TO MICHIGAN
Arguably the worst team on this list lost the last four games of its season including the bowl game. They still almost beat the Sugar Bowl-bound Wolverines, losing by six in Ann Arbor.

2007: LOSS TO ILLINOIS, BEAT MICHIGAN

A loss to Illinois didn't derail the season. All the 2007 squad needed was a win over Michigan and five other teams to lose order to reach the national championship. The odds of reaching the playoffs this year don't seem that long, comparatively.

Beanie Wells ran for 222 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Michigan. It featured a second-half game plan that would only let Todd Boeckman throw two times.

Look. My concern is the O play calling which really hasn't been good all year. Now that we're playing better opponents it is being exposed.
I share this. I am very calm about this game and don't feel a sway whether we will win or lose. However my only concern for this game is our play calling and how our offense does.

I've been pretty vocal all year of my concerns for their defense facing our offense and after last week well you can imagine things aren't any better. We will win if we can make a handful of throws down field but we will not if we play offense in a 5-10 yard box. We will not line up (with zero down field threat) and win by just running zone read.

If we throw for 200 I like our odds... if we don't then obviously I do not like our odds.
