Shot an 86 yesterday morning for my first round of the year. 41 on the front, 45 on the back. That's with back to back lost balls on 5&6, where I let it rip and pushed it too far right O.B.

My short game definitely was my downfall. Definitely could have, and probably should have shot at worst low 80's upper 70's.

Overall, can't be too displeased with my first swings of the year.

Well, Wood, gotta keep them happy. If she's happy, then she'll let you play (golf that is). Maybe you're a better negotiator than I am, but for us it seems to work. In Hawaii, got a deal on a scramble and only cost me $35. In Hawaii, $35 won't buy a string of puka beads, but took her and daughter to the seafood buffet at Mauna Lanai that night, and they were happy.

Golf is my hobby, stress release, and time in the sun. Don't know what will do when too old or decrepit to play, maybe join the old guys on the porch for cribbage or gin.

Fairways and Greens.

Heading up to Ohio this weekend to visit the family. Going to try to get in a couple of rounds of golf. I will probably play Majestic Springs. Not the greatest course, but it is convenient to my family's house. I was thinking of playing Shaker Run too. Has anyone played there recently? If so, what kind of condition is the course in?

Played the old Dornoch CC today. Public course now, great shape, nice track.

89 with two snowmen. First round of the year that wasn't a scramble.

Was decent off the tee. Was decent on the greens, in between not so much, especially pitching.

We did see a fox on the 18th fairway. (no not the beer cart chick)

With a young son, I figure I will get out only a few times this year. I have pre purchased rounds at:
Clover Valley
Highlands CC
Kinsale

Played the home track yesterday. Played the first 8 in +1. Stupid high hook got me in trouble off the tee at #9 and made double to shoot 39.

Back was feast or famine. Shot 42 with three doubles. Doubled the par-3 13 because I tried to get two cute with a chip above the hole. Doubled 17 because of an errant drive. Doubled 18 because of a three putt. Two pars on 17 and 18 and I shoot 77. Instead I fall apart and shoot 81.

I have hit the motherload for good golf moving to South Carolina. I am a hack, but I love playing.... I scored some great clubs from a Nike Rep who knows my father from a bunch of charity tournaments.... If I could just learn to hit my driver consistently, I would be a very decent golfer.

have you ever tried not hitting driver? one of the better golfers i know never hits driver (or very, very rarely). presumably youre a bigger guy with some distance to your game and can make it up. being in "good position" be it in the fairway or first cutting 20-40 yards shorter (depending on what you hit in replacement be it a 3 wood/iron, etc) might be more advantageous than being stuck behind some tree or a fairway over...

I've heard about those balls for awhile...no idea if they actually work or not. I've always had a horrible slice and still cannot fix it. I do know those balls are, for obvious reasons, not approved by the USGA, and cannot be used in any form of tournament. I would be interested to just see if they work or not. I'll never use them because I'd feel like I'm cheating and not playing my true handicap.

My brother-in-law and father-in-law both play those. They seem to really work, you can see the ball "wanting" to slice but it doesn't. I'd say they lose 20yds or so with that as compared to when they use a regular ball and hit it straight.

They tee off with those, and switch em out on the fairway... I let it slide, because they are already cheating w/ the ball.
