To boo or not to boo - when does it go too far?

my question is were u guys this upset when Lydell Ross was getting booed non stop through out last year and even the year before?

Yes. Lydell did not live up to his potential and many of us were disappointed but no college student, especially a Buckeye, deserves to be booed.

Justin Time turned out to be less than many people here expected. Disappointed, perhaps. Happy at his performance in the Alamo Bowl, perhaps. Deserving of being booed yesterday. NO!

We're supposed to be the good guys. Yesterday was the first time I have seen a Spring Game in twenty-five years. It was a privilege that met every one of my expectations, despite the weather, except for one - the morons who booed Zwick.

If I remember right, alot of fans "booed" when they would punt away from Ginn. Whats the thoughts on this type of "booing" - Its not really towards a player(s) but more towards their scheme of attack.

That is directed at the other team and their playcalling and strategy. That has nothing to do with booing one of your own like happened saturday.

I must say... people need to calm down..

Man I made one comment, one comment that didn't even say the word BOO in it, and I got dinged cuz someone assumed by my comment (that was made as an attempt to bring humor into the thread) that I boo'ed someone.

Just cuz yer one sentence story wouldn't make a good book doesn't mean I booed someone... some people need to stand up, walk over to the wall, hit their head against it.. fall down onto the floor.. and not get up for 24 hours.

Actually.. that other team was called the Gray... you know, our players and coaches Saturday.. you know as our fans were booing because they didn't punt to Ginn.

It is evident from the Northwestern and Wisconsin games from last year and the Spring Game yesterday that Ohio State's fans leave something to be desired. I think Nebraska's program in the 90s was built on steroid-laden monsters, but their fans are definitely something to be proud of.
:roll1:

i saw a guy with a UConn hat on punch somebody yesterday. clearly all UConn fans are terrible delinquents.

There is often discussion on these types of Fan Forums over what exactly constitutes a "true fan": I'm going to posit that those who boo (at players) at a spring intrasquad scrimmage do not fall into that category.

I have no problem with booing because Gray punted away from Ginn, though: that's purely in the spirit of fun.

I booed when they punted away, but in a sense of humor kind of way. Everyone wanted to see Ginn get the ball.

Its funny...Zwick gets booed for some bad passes....Troy threw a duck for an interception and no booing.....makes me wonder about some fans.

Right when Ginn ran onto the field the section I sat in started cheering. When the punt fell short of him, everyone booed and then immediately started laughing. :) Totally in good fun. I mean, who DOESN'T want to see Ginn get the ball.

(Answer: The Gray coaches. Haha.)

DISCLAIMER: I was NOT at the game and did NOT boo.

In my opinion, Todd played a very average game based on his role as a 3rd stringer and Troy was below average for our best QB. Zwick was on a whole new level of terrible. In retrospect, I feel the people that booed were out of line. During the game, however, I will admit that I was FURIOUS over the poor passes, reads, miscommunications, etc. between Zwick and whoever he was throwing to. I actually got some satisfaction out of the boos at the time.

Congratulations to those of you with such great personal control that you never get caught up in the heat of the moment, making a mistake. I'm not saying I would have booed if I were at the game, but I'm not going to pretend like it is out of the realm of possibility. I thought people booing the spring game was out of line, but it's not nearly the moral aberration that many of you would have us believe...it happens.

I could see myself getting caught up in the moment if Zwick had his 10th one-bounce pass of the game during the fall season... I understand the boos... but that doesn't mean I would argue it was anything besides wrong. I was really disappointed with Zwick too, and my reactions were not pretty watching the game, but that doesn't mean I have the right to alienate him. I'm more arguing for the sake of the generic argument, not your point Oiler.

And now, in a discussion forum after two days of reflection (surely enough time for the heat of the moment to have cooled), we can call those actions right or wrong. Sure, the boos happened and will always happen and we certainly can't change that here, but that doesn't make it right.

Of course, not all the boos came purely in the heat of the moment: there are a lot of JZ haters out there...

not that im condoning the boos (and no i did not boo), but it wasnt just his performance that game that lead to the boos. he was billed as the best QB in recent OSU history, he was supposed to start the 2002 season until belisorry got drunk and CK took command, he couldnt get it together in 04, he had a shitty game, and the weather was miserable. if you show up for a spring game and get that kind of weather youre already pissed off.....and zwick's play didnt help.

or that troys td pass was very close to being picked off (not nearly as close as the miracle catch and run of troy and teddy last year vs ind)

people never cease to amaze me

"if you show up for a spring game and get that kind of weather youre already pissed off....."

Not an excuse--these kids had to play in that weather, while the fans chose to come out and support their team, and at darn good price.

As for expectations, that's the fans' problem, not the player's: JZ should not be held to any higher set of standards than any other Buckeye. (And I thought his WRs generally did a terrible job holding onto the ball)
