With so much Hype over this game and listening to all the IFS, ANDS & BUTS from the sports media's, one thing I noticed was the question most asked was "who is going to be the most difference maker in this game. Well my pick is this guy Tom Herman. He deems to have a very casual coolness in his approach to the game. I don't know if all that is true, when he is up in the booth trying to call all the plays. That being said, I sure hope he can come up with some surprising scheme's tonight. I think a lot of responsibility will rest on this guys shoulder for this game.

Herman has so many weapons and options to choose from. Here's hoping that he has come up with an amazing game
plan and our BUCKS put up big numbers today against Sparty.

Here's also hoping that Fick/Weathers come up with an amazing game plan on D and that our back 7 can play the best game of their careers tonight.

Yep, I commented early in the game that it seemed like he was convinced tOSU couldn't run before the game even started. And he didn't reconsider it despite all evidence to the contrary.

Two players had 100 yards rushing. One of them averaged 6.5 yards a carry, the same player did not touch the ball on those crucial 3rd and 4th down plays.

Shit, they got more yards per play on Miller's own number on pass plays than they did with his so called "scheme".

I'm not typically one to start calling for firings after a loss, but his play choices and all around management of this offense was pathetic tonight. No fucking way should they have needed to punt the ball 6 times or whatever it ended up being.

Pathetic.

While I agree not running Hyde more was a major lapse in judgement ( especially on 3rd and 4th down of that last drive), I think Herman did a good enough job to beat MSU last night. Their defense is legit and we put them 24 unanswered points on them and had a lead going into the 4th. Could he have not abandoned the run so early in the game? Yes. Could he have handed off to Hyde in that 4th and 1 instead of another QB draw? Yes. But we lost that game not because of our offense execution or playcalling, but due to our defense. Herman did his job last night in my book. We need to be questioning Luke Fickell, Kerry Combs, and the secondary ( and when I say secondary I really mean Corey "Pitt" Brown).

Don't really agree with that. The defense is mediocre, everyone knows it. I know it, you know it, Dantonio knows it, Urban knows it, Herman knows it.
If we want any chance at winning against quality opponents, it comes down to the offense. The offense has to shoulder that burden. In the same way that our defense used to shoulder it under Tressel.
Yes, the D is bad... but that's not going to start improving until the off-season at the earliest. This offense has the horses to score at least 35 on anyone. In the meantime, that means the Offense has to be the ones that win or lose games -- and we lost on that basis. The offense had the opportunities to finish the game last night, instead they delivered two 3/4-and-outs.

Not calling for heads or anything; but making excuses for what happened on the offensive side of the ball last night seems like a cop-out to me. There were some serious letdowns by both some players and some coaches. In particular, I think the receiving corps should stop trash talking and focus on not dropping passes. Hyde has pulled his weight and then some all season and doesn't run his mouth.

I agree the Offensive wasn't perfect and knowing our personnel, the burden was on them to win games and carry the load, but there are two sides of the ball. The defense has to do something, especially at a school like Ohio State. We have access to the highest caliber athletes, facilities, and coaches (supposedly lol). There is no excuse for Michigan St., with an offense with minimal skill position talent, creative schemes, or success to put up 33 points on us. Connor Cook had a career high in passing yesterday, not to mention the other carter best we have given other underwhelming QBs in the past few years. Herman didn't call the best game, but you can't put this loss on him at all. Not even the bulk of it. Our Defense has been dropping the ball for almost three years now, and Braxton and Co. Finally ran out of magic to keep bailing their sorry asses out
