Not to be a downer here, but this team really seems to let its foot off the gas when it thinks it has the game in hand. Up 8 with 7 minutes to go at home against UW, and lose. Last night, up throughout the entire game, and let Northwestern come storming back to tie with 7 seconds to go, and then come within a few inches of hitting a half court shot to lose. This team has to find a way not to let teams back up off the mat. That said, a W is a W--on to East Lansing for a shot at the title.

I couldn't agree more

On the road we are basically 5 deep..we need O off the bench and it isn't there..this effort was better but wouldn't win a sweet 16 game

I agree. Thompson's game is still pretty raw away from the hoop--teams will make him score from the outside in the tournament, if he's going to score at all. Scott's shot has not been falling for some period of time now. And Ravenel has dropped off since earlier in the season for some reason as well.

And those are the only three guys who see minutes off the bench.

In the last six games, OSU has gotten the following points out of its bench:

2
1
20 (blowout win against Illinois)
0
6
2

For the record Thompson was the only freshman I saw play in HS but from what I read I assumed the freshman were ready to contribute right away except for Mc Donald and Williams What Happened? Maybe those proclaiming Scott would start could enlighten me.

Holy crap do the Bucks need to find some consistent outside scoring...I hope Thad's boys do nothing but shoot the rock all summer. Glad the boys dominated inside the paint tonight but come tourney time, it may not be pretty running into a team as physical down low who forces the team to have to score from the perimeter.

I agree. During this game I saw our players standing on the three point line, not moving, clapping their hands and waiting for a pass. That is easy to guard. If I am not worried about my man not moving from the three point line, I can cheat inside and help guard inside. If someone does pass it to my man, I can quickly move to guard him. We need more off ball movement in our perimeter players and screens on their defenders to get them open.

Our perimeter players save Craft looked to me they were not confident in their shot last night and made less effort to get open..looking back I wanted Craft to even take more 3's because the others were hesitant or missing.

Quit whining every game

Some of you guys really need to get a grip. Northwestern is a very good basketball team and we played an excellent first half but even at half time I knew that the game was not a lock. Northwestern can eat up a 10 point margin fairly quickly with the shooters that they have and with the offense that they run it is always not that easy to cover their three-point shooters. Closing out on them is not as simple as it looks.

In addition, the game last night was pretty well officiated and we have to quit complaining every game that we got jobbed. I will admit that There have been games where the officiating seemed to be a little slanted but last night was not one of them.

Perhaps we anticipated more out of this team than we should have. Maybe losing Lighty and Diebler was more than we expected. Our perimeter shooting is very inconsistent to say the least and where we are not shooting very well from the outside we are a very averaged team.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Yeppers.

The Northwestern player made a step back three off of a screen and was 23-25 feet from the basket. Just how do you "defend that better"?

Sometimes I think I should just avoid these game threads completely. People seem to expect absolutely perfect play at all times and forget that there is a skilled opponent wearing the other jersey.

No, people here are/were expecting a Final Four run and are having to come to a quick acceptance after the half way point in the season that this expectation is unrealistic. That is a hard pill to swallow after watching how this year started and the early expectations.

So reality may be that this is mostly a Sweet Sixteen team, but that's difficult to get with so quickly.
