tOSU at Minnesota, Thurs. Sep 2nd, 8 ET on Fox

Great game to start out the year. I think Minny has a solid RB that may be a top 3 RB we face all year. Anxious to see how our front does against that. I noticed our special teams kickers on the depth chart are young and want to see how well they play as those will be crucial in close games as the season moves on. Not a fan of Wilson Returning kicks, basically a ‘what if’ moment scare. Biggest things I’d like to see this team respond to

Defense: 3rd down situations, big plays of 20 yards, QB pressure.

offense: balanced attack, don’t get into 3rd and long situations, TOP, install the run game at will and pick up those 3rd and shorts with a variation of play calls and false start penalties not there.

special teams: No kicks out of bounds, punt protection, no drops on returns. I noticed our kickers listed on depth chart are young and as JT said, the punt is a crucial part of the game.

all in all excited as hell for the season to start and can’t wait to see these guys get on the field and play! Hopefully injury free for both sides and a W for the good guys, Go Bucks!

My crystal ball is in the shop. Big ol’ fucking crack in it.

My thinking is simple: it’s the first game, at night, likely in the rain, on the road, against a conference opponent and we’ve got a QB who’s never attempted a pass in anger at the college level.

Hold your junk in one hand and your drink in the other. Any fucking thing could goddamn happen.

If we emerge victorious it’s mission accomplished because every other B1G East team that’s opening with a conference opponent is an underdog. It would be great to get a game up on all those asswipes no matter how close, or not, this one ends up.

I, personally, don’t see the Bucks covering but would love to be wrong.

Forgot that they're wearing black, they have 20 starters back, and a 3 year starter at QB who's probably playing for his father who passed away recently. Add that to more than likely the best OL we will play all year and them being double digit under dogs? Yeah, anything could happen.
Yeah, you're right. They have all the crystals lined up perfectly. On the road, possibly in the rain, with a QB who hasn't ever thrown a single collegiate game pass, against a team with 20 starters returning, a 3-year QB playing for his recently passed Dad, and they're going to wearing black uniforms. We actually should be the underdogs here.

Are you fucking kidding me? There's a reason why the line on this game hasn't gone down and in fact had gone up slightly, with the percentage of us winning at 86%. It may be close the first quarter or maybe even the first half, but we'll flat out own the second half. Remember Virginia Tech in 2015? We were down 17-14 at halftime only to outscore them 28-7 in the second half to win 42-24, at their place. We will not only win but will also definitely cover.

Well, before you know it, it is Christmas Eve-eve (Christmas Eve is the evening before the last Saturday in November when we beat the hell out of a team up north). I am catching a red-eye flight in the morning to Minneapolis across the country and I have to tell you, I haven't been this excited in awhile. A LIVE football game on a campus I have never had the chance to visit. Tailgating, eating great food, slamming beers and a Thursday night game for the first live game I have been to for awhile. Probably the slowest Monday-Wednesday I have had looking forward to this one.

If you can't tell by the description above, I may be a tad preoccupied tomorrow, so I am going to give my RB07OSU signature pre-game notes/predictions (trademark not pending, nobody probably cares):

1. The battle in the trenches is at the forefront here in a big way. Both teams have massive OLs and opposing defenses are going to have their hand's full. But I think our DL is immensely more talented than Minnesota, so I like that position battle if you're talking OL v DL. Our DL will get the best OL they will probably see in the regular season and have the chance to step up. Really think if the DTs stand up, we could shut them down all night.

2. Master Teague leads the total rushing yards of the RBs. I think Teague was made for a game like this and will batter Minnesota. I think you will see plenty of Henderson and he will shine, but the veteran will roll.

3. The OL keeps Stroud's jersey clean and after a couple drives, the OL just dominates.

4. On defense, the pass rush is there immediately and often. Harrison dominates in the pass rush and Garrett stuffs the run. Jack Sawyer breaks out and gets 2 sacks.

5. LBs look solid and always around the ball, specifically Mitchell and Eichenberg...those two seem like game-changers in this one. Expect a few big hits from those two, and I also expect to see Pope, Gant and Simon involved.

6. The DBs look occasionally better, but give up some occasional big plays. Banks looks dominant and Ransom looks like a star.

Outcome: 38-28. Between the rain, night game coming early, freshman QB, veteran Minnesota team, PJ Fleck, etc...there will be early struggles that you forget about at times while our talent is clear. But I think we pull away mid-3rd quarter by a bit after a scare, which I would be fine with tbh. If we run away with it, I will be happier than a two-peckered billygoat, but I don't think so. But we get the W, Go Bucks!

Haha, my man.

I look at CJ throwing everyday against this team with all of his weapon for 6 months as better experience than playing Minnesota. I got the Over/Under 5 plays for the first Buckeye score in this one. The only real question mark is our Defensive back 7. Everything else is a case of we have way too much talent for the Gophers regardless of the other elements.

I still predicted we would win like 49 to 28 or something in that range. There's just a ton of weird stupid advantages they have. Call it bad memories with night game, on the road, team wearing black etc.

Not saying we won't win or that we won't cover... just There's a lot to feel uneasy about for me at least.
