tOSU at Notre Dame, Sat. 9/23, 7:30pm EST, NBC

Softness has not been an issue whatsoever. Assignments and staying disciplined maybe a bit but softness? Hell no.

I saw YSU push our DL for a crucial yard on 3rd and short. Same for WKU.

If that is somehow a missed assignment or whatever then fine. Call it what you want. Teams have been able to run when they want to and stop us from running when we need to.

Hopefully they shove it down NDs throat and it’s nothing to be concerned about but we’ve seen this before. It’s the negative side of the Day pattern.

With the way our secondary is playing it’s really going to come down to stopping their run game.

Stop the run, don’t turn the ball over and be aggressive on offense!
Wash. Rinse. Repeat. National Champs

I already put a $50 spot on the good guys and I'm a $10 wagerer. There's a reason they won't join the BiG and that line won't be under 5 by Saturday. Fuck em

"We love big games. We love matchup games," Egbuka said. "That's why you come to Ohio State is to play Notre Dame in South Bend. We've already started on them. We weren't looking past Western Kentucky by any means, but this one's a big game. We will celebrate this win, but we're all laser-focused, and we're ready to play them."

I have a good feeling about this game now. What a difference 1 week makes because this time last week I didn’t feel great.

I think our guys want this challenge. I think they want to show up in a big way considering our last 2 big game losses.

I didn’t realize NDs interior offense was new this year. I think much like last year our DTs are going to give them a ton of trouble. Combine that with ND having a average DL and I think we can take the LOS again.

$500 bucks is the get-in price for the Bucks vs. the Irish per StubHub.

Fellas is that about what you might expect to pay for the OSU/Michigan game?
I paid that for last year's OSU/Mich for pretty ok seats. Lower level in the endzone. If I remember, about half that was the get in the door price for a pair. A little less than $200 for a single.

I don't think there's much you can take from last week. Issues were there, but they slept walk through the 2nd half and also had some TDs taken off the board by terrible refs. Forgettable game.

Agree on the DTs. Williams is playing much better and Hall can be a game wrecker. It's going to be a huge test, but I also think the defense has improved a lot.

Spot on take by Klatt, he's one of my favorites and non-biased. He is right that the national media treats us differently, but also that our fanbase is overly critical. You look around and UGA, scUM, F$U, ND, etc. looked like absolute shit last week and everyone gives them a pass. But at the end of the day I just hope it is fuel for the fire, because if we win our games then everything will fall into place.

Really looking forward to this game though. Against WKU our OL looked MUCH improved and yeah ND is going to have a much tougher defensive front, but our OL is finally communicating and not missing assignments and I think that was our issue the first couple of games.

Our back 7 on defense has inspired confidence in me big time after the last game, WKU has a legit passing attack and they defended it extremely well. So the pass defense against ND I am now less concerned on even though Hartman is a good QB with a lot of experience. DL absolutely must get the job done...yes they have new guards, but they also have a soon to be 1st round LT in Alt, Correll at C is very good, and their RT is also a good one. The matchup with JT and Alt is going to be incredible to watch, hopefully JT whoops him.

On defense it is going to be stopping the run to me, we have been suspect there and with #7 running behind a good line, getting off the field could again become a problem. WKU was somewhat better in that regard, but with the time clock changes the whole "bend but don't break" philosophy is tough to abide by. Our offense needs the ball back quicker than we are getting it back so far, and that can't happen. ND probably won't play quite like the first 3 teams we played who knew they needed to limit our possessions to have a chance, but I would expect a somewhat similar approach nonetheless. ND has a good secondary, but I am pretty sure they know they can all limit our WRs for so many snaps.

Early prediction from RB07OSU is 31-17 Ohio State and only pulling away slightly at the end for that score, but really nothing would surprise me in this game to be perfectly honest. ND is a solid team, we are on the road at night, and as much as I am starting to believe in McCord, this is his first big test in a hostile environment.

Freeman discussed a variety of topics relative to the rematch with his alma mater on Monday, offering plenty of praise for the Buckeyes including for Ryan Day, Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Egbuka and JT Tuimoloau. He also talked about his expectations for Notre Dame’s home crowd and his message for former Ohio State defensive end Javontae Jean-Baptiste, who is now a starting defensive end for the Fighting Irish.

A quick roundup of what Freeman had to say in his first media availability of the week:

  • “Obviously we have a great opponent coming in. We’re excited about the chance to go against a top-tier opponent, for sure. We’re excited about just the atmosphere that’s gonna be here with College GameDay and the Pat McAfee Show and NBC ... we expect to see a lot of green in that stadium, and we think it’s a great opportunity to play a great opponent on Saturday night in Notre Dame Stadium.”
  • On Ryan Day: “He's done an unbelievable job of leading that program ... he has just done a tremendous job of really leading that program, so we know it’s going to be a really good opponent with a great coaching staff, and we‘re looking forward to that.”
  • Freeman said “it’s a lot different than what it was last year being the first game of the season” with Notre Dame already having four games under its belt entering the Ohio State game this year.
  • On Sam Hartman playing in the biggest game of his career: “I think in his mind, he has played in games like this. He’s played in some big games at Wake Forest, and this moment won’t be too big for him. This is year six for him.” He thinks Hartman’s experience is an advantage for Notre Dame going into this game.
  • On Ohio State’s offense: “You’ve seen their offense kind of evolve over the first three games. It’s explosive, you see a lot of tempo. I think I’ve seen more tempo recently ... It all starts with the run game. They want to run the ball. Very similar mindset to what I have: The ability to run the ball will create openings in the pass game.”
  • Freeman says Notre Dame is planning for Kyle McCord to play all the snaps for Ohio State, but says Notre Dame will have a plan for Devin Brown as well. He doesn’t think Ohio State’s offense changes much based on which quarterback is in the game.
  • On JT Tuimoloau: “44’s an impressive football player. He’s big, he’s powerful, he’s explosive ... They’ve got a lot of (defensive linemen) who are really disruptive. So we have to be good up front.”
  • On Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka: “They’re good players, man. You just gotta turn on the film. Harrison’s body type, skill set, he can go up and get the ball and he’s a great route runner ... Egbuka is the same way. He’s a playmaker.” Freeman complimented Brian Hartline for developing first-rounders year in and year out.
  • “I don’t want to play not to lose. I want our guys to be aggressive, I want our guys to be attacking.” Freeman said that’s a change in mindset from what he had going into last year’s game, when the Fighting Irish held the ball more to run down the clock.
  • “We want to see a lot of green in here.” Notre Dame will be wearing green jerseys, and Freeman is encouraging all Notre Dame fans to wear green.
  • “I’ve got a lot of confidence in our wide receivers ... I’m excited for those guys to have the opportunity to go out there Saturday and compete against some really good DBs.”
  • On what he’ll tell Javontae Jean-Baptiste, who transferred from Ohio State to Notre Dame this offseason: “My message to him will be the same thing really to everybody else: Don’t worry about Saturday, worry about today. And when we get to Saturday, worry about doing your job every single play ... If you want to have a great outcome, that’s what it’s going to take.”

The Domer fans around me - those who will trade the navy and gold for candy striped IU basketball gear in December - they are all really confident.

Gotta say it’s a little scary seeing them actually have a QB for the first time in a decade +. And that RB is a stud. It’ll take a huge effort by the DL (concerned) and LBs (less concerned).

I’d be taking the underdog home team, if I had to make a play. Seems like a game they could just smashmouth the Bucks and control it.

As I have with other big games and my emphasis on Ryan Day’s coaching - this team has to lead by offense. Him and Hartline need a gameplan the kid’s can execute and then the QB and playmakers need to do their thing. It’s an offensive game and an offensive built team so go put up 30+ points.

Defense, I fully expect headaches. But the offense can’t sputter and leave them in worse situations.

No matter what I’ll be a mad, nervous, screaming Buckeye fan around mostly ND fans come Saturday night so I’m ready for OSU to shut up these sanctimonious asshats.

Yeah I get it that Hartman is good for them but I really think our DBs have a pretty substantial advantage over their WRs. We can load the box to stop the run without the nerves of the big breakdowns in the secondary I think.

Also I get it that Freeman wants to be more aggressive but I think that’s a fine line vs a team like Ohio State. Aggression can lead to fatal mistakes and those can compound.
