Tristen Wallace (WR Prairie View A&M)

Says he's coming with his Mom, Dad & a teammate. Always a plus when you can impress the parents.

Interesting 11W article (comparison):

The last time Ohio State went searching for a quarterback in Texas, things seemed to work out pretty well. In fact, the biggest difference between Wallace and current Buckeye J.T. Barrett might be that this Texas staff hasn't been asleep at the wheel: Wallace has an offer from the Longhorns.

The kind of kid you can bring in, redshirt, and have him learn his craft. Guarantano is probably better prepared to start sooner, but that's not likely with our depth chart. If Wallace wanted to commit this weekend, I bet the staff would take it.

I think in a perfect world Wallace doesn't rush to another decision before they get Guarantano back on campus and can get a read on where they stand with him. If that happens, they may have to make a tough decision about whether or not they are ready to accept a verbal from Wallace. I don't think that scenario is likely but it could happen. In that case, it will be interesting to see how they proceed.

Just pure speculation but my guess would be that the staff tells Wallace to not rush into a commitment on campus and take a week or so to think about it. In the meantime, Guarantano gets a call that is the equivalent to an ultimatum. Guarantano is deciding on his own accord very soon anyways, so I don't see timing being much of an issue here.

I dont see Guarantano in this class unfortunately. Hopefully that doesnt effect getting Gary to come along with Kareem though. I'm ok with either QB or maybe even none at this point with the roster, guys coming in and Clark coming next year.

I think we should bring in a QB every year. Relying on Clark is a dangerous thing

In the event Wallace wants to commit during his visit, I don't see anything wrong with the staff telling him - honestly - that he's #2 on the board right now and they want to wait it out until JG makes a decision.

Some recruits would appreciate that, and I'd bet Wallace is aware of the fact he's behind JG in the pecking order right now anyway. Trying to spin it as, "go home and think about it until tax day just to be sure" would come off as shady and dishonest to me if I were a recruit. I would rather know exactly where I stand than be treated as if I weren't smart enough to understand the business of recruiting.

All that said, I'm 31 and not 17. Perhaps I would have felt differently 14-15 years ago.

If he wants to commit and the staff accepts his commitment, that should say all you should need to know about him. (See our staff not waiting on Derrick Green to make a decision to accept a commitment from Zeke Elliott)

All things considering (esp. with regards to the depth chart), Tristen would be a heck of a get in this class.

I don't think we should discount the possibility that the coaches like Wallace as much or more than J.G. and that Guarantano being a clear cut #1 choice is a fiction on someone's part.
It's not fiction. Pecking order currently is Guarantano, Wallace then hopefully Haskins. I don't know how Haskins has fallen down so far, the kid can spin better than anyone I've seen on film in awhile. Doesn't mean they won't accept the commitment of Wallace, they just think that Guarantano's skill set fits the system best. No knock is being made on Wallace in any matter, being anywhere on Meyer's QB pecking order speaks volumes in itself. But there's always a pecking order and I've watched it change once already this year.

I believe that Haskins isn't as mobile as the other 2 and that's why he's fallen down the pecking order. Idk if he's even still in the top 3 anymore. But im just going off of what I've read on other sites. Mods is this correct? The main focus has been Guarantano for months and Wallace the past few weeks.
