Two sport professional athletes

I was thinking about something over the past day any I wanted to run it by the BP knowledge base to see if I'm onto something. Has there ever been a player to fail at one professional sport and then become a star at another? All I can think of are guys like Weeden and Drew Henson that failed at baseball and then became shitty players in the NFL. Am I missing anyone that would disprove my theory? If not I think it would be a pretty good case against drafting 28 year old QB's.

I'm thinking failure at one sport shows a mental weakness that crosses over into other sports.

well...I don't know if he failed at baseball but Russell Wilson was drafted for baseball and played in the minors but switched to football after that.

I'm certain there was someone in the 70s or 80s or 90s who did it. Brian Jordan maybe?

Good call on Wilson, I didn't even remember that he played pro baseball. He's only a year or two older than the other guys in his draft class so he isn't in the same boat as Weeden. I checked his profile and it seems like he liked football over baseball, so it wasn't really a wash out situation. Maybe he could tell after a year that he wasn't going to cut it and decided to give football a shot. Still a guy that picked baseball, changed his mind, and became the second best QB in his draft class (so far).

I think John Elway played for the Skankees for a bit in the minors....

I'm virtually certain Chris Weinke played baseball in the minors as well.

I was thinking Weinke was in the Weeden boat. A little better, but not a good NFL player. I think Elway was always a football player. IIRC he did have some NFL draft drama about not wanting to play for the Colts, which is where the baseball threat came in. Doesn't look like he ever played pro baseball.
