USFL / XFL (merged official thread)

With only two weeks of practice before the season things looked ragged early. By the end of the year there was some pretty decent ball being played. The championship game in Canton went back and forth but both starting QBs got injured in the 4th quarter. One play by a back up iced the game.

Time for a thread title change. The XFL is very much alive. Pretty decent attendance. I guess it helps when you actually play home games, as opposed to the USFL hub having Michigan play Philadelphia in Birmingham, Alabama.

I am glad there are alternatives, but I can't be arsed to give a shit without a team to care about. I would adopt a Cincinnati team, obviously, or a team from Columbus. Hope it works and they expand.

I wish there was just one Spring league. Having two just waters down the talent. The USFL can go away now with this one going. Kicking off the week after the SB is perfect and they'll wrap up just as baseball gets going. These guys are actually playing home games, too. That USFL hub thing had many games played in an empty stadium - no atmosphere at all.

I don't so much have a team as just watching certain players/coaches from college and the NFL, and not the entire game. Basically something to follow until March Madness gets rolling.

I went to an XFL game to see the Sea Dragons on Easter Sunday (Lumen Field, same stadium the Seahawks play in). It was honestly a blast, got to see Josh Gordon and Phillip Lindsay play. Pretty good turnout on a holiday and the fans there were really passionate, I was pretty surprised how many people showed up and cheered, especially with all the rain that day.

I know it is not NFL but I think it is really entertaining. The rules are different enough to make it fun but to the core it is still the same style of football we're used to, and the players overall are pretty good. I am watching the rest of the season when I can,

Colin Kaepernick appears to have two options if he wants to return to football, but QB doesn't seem interested

The XFL and CFL are interested in having the QB as part of their leagues

If Colin Kaepernick wants to make a return to football, the former NFL quarterback appears to have two options on the table. However, as things stand right now, the NFL is not one of those options, which is likely why Kaepernick remains out of football.

If the former 49ers quarterback is just looking to get back on the field, he could consider the XFL, a league that made headlines last month when it announced that it would be merging with the USFL. The XFL is partially owned by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and after the merger was announced on Sept. 28, Johnson was asked if Kaepernick might end up playing in the XFL and he gave a very interesting answer.

"We met with Kap and his agents (whom I like a lot) earlier this year," Johnson wrote on Instagram. "Good meeting, looked to create opportunity for him but I don't think it'll happen. We'll see."

Based on how he answered the question, it seems that Johnson would like to see Kaepernick play in the XFL, but it appears that Kaepernick's camp turned down the offer. Although Kaepernick might feel like the XFL would be a step back for him -- after all, he did lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2012 -- the fact of the matter is that he's been out of the NFL for seven years and playing in another league might be his only pathway back to the NFL.

If Kaepernick doesn't want to play in the XFL, it appears that his second option for returning to football could come in Canada. According to TSN, the BC Lions have added Kaepernick to their negotiation list. This doesn't mean that he's going to play in the CFL, it just means that if he decided to play football in Canada, then BC would be the only team he would be allowed to negotiate with.

Of course, it doesn't seem like the 35-year-old has any interest in going up north. Over the past six years, two other CFL teams -- Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Montreal Alouettes -- have had Kaepernick on their negotiation list, but they never ended up talking to him.

Should've seen this coming. The teams not included in the merger are making another Spring league. So basically, nothing has changed except the names of the two Spring leagues. Dumb.

EDIT: Didn't read this closely enough. It isn't a new league, it's the new name of the merged XFL and USFL. Thread title change, please.
