RB... They've got to drop...right now Iowa Is no better than us which is a one loss division champion. I get what you're saying but They've got to drop and I doubt they just flip flop with MSU.

Also consider the momentum.... Iowa just had their heart ripped out and it's fans were hoping for the playoffs. Now they're left with the Rose bowl which normally is awesome but for them I think that was the last thing they wanted. I would imagine it may be tough for them to get up for the consolation that is the Rose bowl this year.

For us? While we had hopes of backing in we had accepted our fates in reality two weeks ago. I think we will be accepting of our fate at the Rose bowl.

Bigger fan base and a fan base that will appreciate being there.

I get all that and really, I agree 100% in terms of us fans accepting our fate after the MSU game. Hell, after that game I was just praying we beat *ichigan and we did, so I am content. But that will not be the analysis the selection committee uses.

We also went from possibly being in the playoffs to out of it, so I am not sure that is a huge divergence from Iowa. I really don't care whether we are in the Rose or Fiesta at this point. Regardless of what the bowls used to mean, now they are two BCS bowls that are not the playoffs. Other than the difference between the fans traveling to California vs. Arizona and antiquated differences between the bowls, what is the difference? To me, there is none to speak of, or any other "NY6" game to be frank.

I'm a trad so I still put the Rose Bowl up on a special pedestal. I thought that the Big 10 and Pac 10 back in the day should have left the BCS. Heck you would have had some more compelling match ups back then. Iowa deserves the Rose quite frankly, they did win a division and went 8-0 in conference play. I don't think the committee will drop them. And when was the last time Iowa played in the Rose, 1991? Anyone remember the old recency rule? Well Iowa should get that benefit. And conveniently enough, Ohio State lost on a last second field goal that season (1990) to Michigan or else they would have been in the Rose Bowl (but not really they would have tied). Remember that Greg Frey option play lol?

I also got a fuzzier feeling based in previous years on hearing "The Rose Bowl" over "The Fiesta Bowl." But I also realized this week that there is no tangible difference anymore. Either way, we play in a bowl game in which we will not be in contention for a national championship and will play on new years day somewhere out west.

The Rose bowl committee doesn't need to pick the highest ranked team. They can pick who they want to pick so where Iowa is ranked isn't a big deal. It's who THEY want though

They don't have to and in all reality, I would prefer be in the Rose Bowl over Iowa. I just don't think we have earned it over Iowa this year and I would vote them in over us without a blink of an eye. THIS year, not last year. I would prefer money not get us in here.

I believe they also don't have to pick a BIG team (once the conference winner advances). Ultimately, money comes into play. Sorry Iowa.

Why not? We both lost to MSU in the 4th quarter.... it's not like Iowa was playing tough teams in their division... and their premiere OOC game was Iowa State.

Let's not act like OSU had a tough OOC slate either. Out biggest win was against a 6-6 VA Tech team who lost to anyone with a pulse. Iowa St, though 3-9 lost 3 games by a TD or less and could've been as mediocre as VA Tech. Iowa at least won all the games on their schedule, no matter how weak, and lost in a CCG, not the regular season, which is the biggest difference, IMO. The conference runner up should go to the Rose Bowl, the whole defending NC is BS, we all know that we're not last years team so let's stop hanging on to that.

You have to give Iowa's coaches credit they didn't play scared. The big knock on Iowa was they didn't have the athletes to stretch MSU's defense. We were the team that played scared of MSU's defense...they are living on reputation because this secondary is very vulnerable.
