I think that most posters and I don't really share a common experience on this topic.

Either

A.) You people have a lot more money than I do

OR

B.) Are taking to favorite to mean what tastes the best rather than what you purchase the most

Obviously I think high end vodkas taste the best like Grey Goose and others that have been mentioned, but I can't say that I've ever actually bought a bottle of one before in my whole life. Personally I usually buy a cheap flavored vodka like Smirnoff or Danzka. They taste terrible as a shot or in a martini type drink, but are decent when mixed with juice or cola. Also, I can't say that I've purchased vodka for any other reason than to get fucked up. If I want to drink an alcoholic beverage just for the taste I always go for a nice beer.

Probably A :wink2:

When I drink Gin or Vodka, I don't mix it with anything but some ice, and possibly a little olive juice, some lemon or a little tonic. In this situation you want something smooth, crisp and refreshing. I agree, if you are going to make a bloody mary, or add a bunch of juice or cola, go with something cheaper. I also do not sit around and drink 6 or 7 in a night. I may start the evening off with couple around 11:30 or noon,:tongue2: but I usually end the evening with beer.

Of that list I'd go with Grey Goose (mandarin sp? orange to be specific)... I must admit I'm a gin guy instead of vodka... Skyy vodka was my drink of choice many years ago, I still like Skyy for a plain vodka...

I think all of us understood it as "B."

That was a very tg05'ish post.

If you're mixing juice or cola with good vodka or gin you have a lot of money to burn or you're snoop (gin and juice:tongue2: )... High end gins and vodka are meant to drink straight, on the ice, with tonic, or in martini's.

I tend to have a couple of drinks and that is it. I enjoy Tanqueray's "Ten" and beefeater gin. If I'm drinking scotch, I'll drink nice single malts for the first two, then drop to cheaper blends (my taste buds are shot after a couple, no sense in drinking the expensive stuff after a couple rounds).

I think I've been wasted out of my mind maybe twice in the last several years... I don't drink to get wasted anymore, funny how "old" that sounds:wink2:

Also, on a side note... for those that enjoy vodka and gin I have a must try if you can get your hands on a bottle... It's called Bafferts gin. It's a premium gin that is distilled using very few botanicals and is quite light on the juniper. It basically tastes like vodka with a subtle hint of gin. When I purchase a bottle it is a feat. You need to call your local state liquor store and have them specalty order for you... Bishop Wine & Spirits is the importer (your state liquor store will need to know that). It's really good, and I'd suggest all try it if you enjoy vodka and gin...

Nasty,

I purchased my first bottle in Dayton through a friend who worked in the industry (it was recommended). She left the industry and I was stuck to fend for myself for my second bottle. After several phone calls the importer told me to find a local store that was willing to purchase a case (they sell to the stores by the case, so the store is taking a chance if they only have one purchaser who is only interested in one bottle). I called Huffmans Market in Tremont Center (in Upper Arlington)... they are a mom and pop specalty grocer who pride themselves on service.

Huffmans got the job done for me. I don't know if they have any left or if they carry it regularly (who knows mabye others tried it, liked it, and now purchase it regularly). If it sat on the shelf for a long time, they might not want to purchase another case. I just called and they are sold out. They said they would special order it for me again (not sure if they would require me to purchase the whole box or not) I'd call Huffmans to see if they will order bottles. If no, then call your local place to see if they would be willing to place an order for you... Most online stores have it "out of stock" however I did find this store that has six bottles left:

I don't know what the rules are regarding internet sales of liquor... the price isn't too bad at the above listed site.

Let me know if you have Huffmas make an order for you... I'll prob. stop by and pick up another bottle or two while they have it in stock (There are a few friends that had interest in purchasing a bottle as well).

I think turnaround time was about a week.

Thanks Gbear,

I have a friend in GA who owns two liquor stores, I am trying to get in touch with her to see if they carry it down there or if she can get it for me. If she comes through, I will let you know. I usually use the Corner Beverage on Polaris for liquor and beer and they have been really good about getting in specialty beers for me in the past. I will try them too.

Thanks for the help!

See... Muck actually knows of wht he speaks.:wink2:

I've just learned to appreciate good Vodka's over the years. Was engaged to a Swede and spent a bit of time in Russia and Eatern Europe....it's hard not to learn to appreciate Vodka under those circumstances. lol

To reiterate some points already made in the thread....good Vodka is something you savor. You don't throw back a dozen lemon drops made with Cristall while bar hopping....and IME Vodka afficionados are a heck of a lot more fun than "connoisseurs" of other spirits, wine or cigars.
