Where to stay in Columbus

Buckeye Reppin in Gator Country
I have just recently been married and I'm taking the new family up to Ohio for a week. I actually live in Gainesville, FL and I really need to get away from here for a little while (for obvious reasons). My wife and step daughter have never been to Columbus and I'd like to take a tour of the stadium, visit the WHAC, check out the Buckeye Hall of Fame and pretty much everything else Buckeye related.

I've been on this board for a long time, and I know this is the best place for Buckeye related info. It's been quite awhile since I've been to Columbus and was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on what hotel would be worth staying at, and what the ideal location would be (safe for families etc.) I know this question is generally asked during football season, but this will be a totally different atmosphere and I was hoping my Buckeye brethren could help out. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciate.

Not necessarily the cheapest, but as close to Ohio State as you can get:

Holiday Inn on the Lane, see: Holiday Inn On The Lane - OSU Hotel, Columbus OH

The Blackwell, see The Blackwell : Home

P.S. I'm not sure they do actual stadium tours.

There's a Red Roof Inn near campus, too. Can't remember exactly where, though. It'll be cheaper than a Holiday Inn, but the difference in cost is noticeable. You still get a bed and TV and a bathroom, but you'll hardly have space to fit yourself, much less a wife and a step-daughter. Also, hotels may be cheaper as you get away from the city. There's a bunch of hotels around I-270.

Edit: Another issue with Red Roof Inn is a political issue: Accor Hotels are owned by French people. I'm not saying that you should or should not stay there, for that reason. Just letting people have that information.

The Red Roof is on the corner of Ackerman and Olentangy River road, it is withing walking distance of WHC and the Schott, about 5-10 minutes...

Then another 10 minute walk to St. Johns and shoe and campus...

Blackwell is going to cost you and the holiday inn is right across the street from st. johns, so it is about 10 mintue walk to Schott and WHC...

Thanks for all of the information fellas, it's much appreciated. Another question I have is access to the stadium. Is an official tour necessary to get into the stadium, or is it accessible at certain times throughout the day?

You'll need to get the tour to access the stadium, it isn't freely open

Staying downtown is always kind of nice if you don't mind paying for it...the Crowne plaza is on the edge of downtown in the Short North, which is an arts/shopping/restaurant packed area by the Arena district...there's also a Drury Inn that is pretty cheap and the other standard downtown hotels that range from about $125 a night to really damned expensive :)

Easton might also be a nice place, if you can afford your daughter and wife being there...there is a nice Hilton and some other less fancy hotels

That Hilton is a very nice place to stay in columbus. Also you can not beat the atmosphere at Easton.

There is also a Fairfield Inn on Olentangy between Dodridge and Riverview. The coolest place to stay in Columbus, though, is in the downtown area. The Arena District is great and you are within a ten minute drive of campus. Have a good time in Columbus. Feel free to ask any other questions if you need to.

I believe we might have settled on The Columbus, A Renaissance Hotel (Marriott) located on 50 North 3rd Street - Columbus, Ohio 43215. I'm seeing a rate of about $129 per night and I've read some good reviews about it. Has anyone stayed there or know anyone who has? Any comments are most definitely welcome and once again thank you for all of the suggestions of hotels and activities......it's great to be a Buckeye fan and I'm hoping this whole experience will help finish the conversion of my "Gator born"...blech!..... wife and step-daughter :)
