WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion)

You guys make it sound like running more than 2 different routes and catching a football requires a 4 year degree with a residency in neurosurgery.

Braxton has been running routes for months. He has guys like Galloway and Cris Carter tutoring him. He is a better athlete than both those two All Pro receivers. He will be ready to go Game one. He isn't a 17 year old kid coming out of high school. It's not nearly as difficult as some are making it sound to run the H especially when you have the God given talent of Braxton and great mentors and coaches teaching you. It doesn't take years.

I guess I'll be Debbie Downer here before Max or matcar jump in. I don't know if this switch to HBack is going to produce the 17 different Heisman candidates that people are starting to drool over. Could be another Brandon Saine/Ray Small/Maurice Wells. Not the best examples to use as a negative for multiple reasons....Brandon was a decent running back in his own right (great game against Oregon in the Rose Bowl), Ray Small just conjures up bad memories for off the field issues, and Maurice was a square peg in a walrus shaped hole. But all 3 of those kids were supposed to be so fast it didn't matter what position you put them in. Just get them the ball and let them run. Well.....that didn't exactly pan out.

I'm anxious as hell to see Braxton with the ball in his hands again....and watching some of those clips from 2 and 3 years ago reminded me of how much I forgot he could do. But I'm definitely in a wait and see with this position move.

I'm not on the "he's definitely going to do video game stuff all the time as an H back. ZOMG!" bandwagon myself, but unlike any of the three guys that you mention Brax has proved himself to be a fast, ELUSIVE, and reasonably powerful runner. Saine and Wells had an almost magical ability to avoid holes and Small was simply his own worst enemy.

Comparisons used simply for the contrast of expectations vs what they ended up being. I know what Braxton can do when he's the QB and they have to respect his possibility of throwing. I hope it's the same as when they can line somebody up on him and not have to worry about the passing game.

Oversimplification, but I don't think Tressel knew how to use that kind of athlete. He did very well with feature RBs and traditional WRs, but Wilson and Marshall would've either found themselves in a similar no-mans-land or transition to WR.
I still like Tressel, but there's really no doubt that Urban is a major upgrade on the offensive side of the ball.

Brandon saine possesed great STRAIGHT line speed and size with good hands . He lacked vision ,Elusivness and running bqck savvy thats why he was used only situational and thwn moved to a receiving fullbavk role later on. Ray's off the field issues stuntes his growth here as a player and he never was able to become the playnaker we thought and Maurice Wells was 5'9 185 pounds scatback playing in a I formation offense he didnt stand a chance to be productive this was the wrong offense entirely for him ...that said if any of these players played in this offense i gurantee we would have diffrent things to say about there production braxton brings good size great speed and a amazing grasp of an offense that fits his every skill set i dont see how he could fail personally at all

BINGO! The players mentioned weren't the problem, the offense they were in was. They were all square pegs trying to fit into round holes, except for Small being a bonehead college kid. Saine and Wells would work great in this offense that allowed them to get in space and provide mismatches for the defense. Braxton will do fine, as Meyer and Warriner will put him in positions where he's covered 1 on 1, and I don't believe a defensive player in the country can tackle him one on one. Braxton may not put up unbelievable numbers, as it's hard to in this offense because when it's most effective, multiple guys touch the ball. But he'll be a big part of a rotation, and an effective weapon for the offense and possibly ST

I'm out there as one that fully expects Brax to be video-game great..
Could fill this thread up with clips of Brax as a freshman/soph when he was TWICE the MVP of the B1G.. and Heisman-tier

I remember at times the angst when Brax had to pass cuz wasn't convinced he had all the QB tools especially the arm/touch
but never had doubt one on this legs...

We may have gotten tired over the years of this player and that player being the next Percy Marvin
but this is a 6'2 and very well put together 215 pound version

and guess what, URB knows it
don't care about any other name before him... go watch some Brax clips
