WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion)

The Bucknuts boys interviewed Braxton's coach on a recent podcast. Some high points:

  • Coach is a huge Tressel/OSU fan and obviously wants Braxton to be a Buckeye, but did not say so in so many words
  • Coach wants Braxton to commit before the season starts because he thinks that is what's best for Braxton. He says that the number of contacts that occur during the season for players of that caliber becomes a huge time-sink and distraction.
  • When asked who Braxton plays like, coach was at a loss. He seems to think he's got Vick's feet with Elway's arm and Marino's release. He wouldn't say any names... that's just the impression he gave.
  • He says he's only told Braxton one thing about recruiting: (paraphrasing) Once you make a verbal commitment - keep your word.
  • When the coach referred, with a slight pause, to the "caliber of program that Braxton is going to play for at the next level" - it gave the distinct impression that the coach thinks he knows more than just the "caliber" of the program to which he'll be sending Braxton.
If you look for the Podcast, it's the last "Bucknuts Radio Hour" from April.

Buckeye :)

hopefully.

Braxton can be really special. That arm, the mechanical tools, and the feet are setting him up pretttttty nicely.

Edit: How could I forget- from everything we've all heard, he's a great leader with great command of the huddle- which may be the most important of all those traits to his success.

I am not aware of a head coach in the GWOC that isn't a Buckeye fan. Also notice that not many GWOC kids wait past summer to decide...the coaches usually want early commitments. Minton definitely is on board with OSU here though and it certainly helps.

Surprising Minton would be a Buckeye fan given the fact that he's from Florida. Built up a good program in Boca Raton, FL.

Was wondering if anyone had seen this article on Duane Long's blog:

Braxton Miller - A different view

From what I got from the article, it seems like he thinks Braxton should change positions? Don't know if he's serious or not, but I am very puzzled why he'd want such a high rated QB to change positions

I took it as Braxton is such and exceptional athlete that he could play anywhere on the field and do well at it. Also if Cardale Jones came to play here and he could play QB, then putting Miller at WR would be another way to get the most out of the talent that you have. That's the way I took what DLR wrote.

Agree completely but I think he was referring to the fact that Miller is such a great athelete that even if he didn't pan out at QB he could still be elite at a different position as opposed to Cordale Jones who can only be successful at QB (in his eyes).

It's pretty obvious that he's simply stating that Braxton is a no brainer because he could fit in elsewhere if he didn't pan out as a QB.

Duane Long has some valuable insights into recruiting sometimes, but in this case I think he is being pretty dense.

Let's focus on getting Braxton Miller to Ohio State as the heir apparent to Pryor at QB please. Anything that detracts from that goal is pointless speculation and beyond unnecessary.

He is actually from W Virginia, but yes he was the coach in Boca Raton before coming to Wayne. He had to have some influence for Bellisari going to OSU

Not sure how crowded the QB spot in Bama is (too lazy to look), but it looks like Star Jackson will seek to transfer. Don't expect depth to scare Miller that much, but one less body can't hurt the chances. NO idea how or if at all this would come into play, but with his buddy Trey D having such interest in the Tide who knows?

I think they picked up Simms last year, who I thought was a solid pickup for anyone... Either way, most BCS schools are going to have some sort of guy in front of you that you're going to have to beat out in some way.

I don't see depth playing a part in his choice, but I think our situation has to look as good as any (in Braxton's eyes).
