WR Corey Smith (Official Thread)

^80 was Noah Brown...just looked it up. I must be getting old because I can usually name every player and number. Some dude #24 was playing safety and I couldn't see his name due to the black lettering. Completely freaked me out. I was obsessing over it, couldn't get a signal in the stadium. 24 is listed as Malik Hooker on the website but it definitely started with N. Must have been Niehoff who is listed at 26 on the official roster.

It was Niehoff. He is listed as 26 on the roster, but if you go to the 2014 stats and click on roster he is listed as 25. Getting off topic, but there was also an undressed player named Cook, number 11, anyone know who he is?

Officially done for the season according to Urbans presser today.

Wonder if he goes after a medical redshirt.
The limit is 30% of the season. I am not sure he'll get credit for being out with suspension in the first game.

  • The student-athlete must suffer the injury during one of their four seasons of college competition or during the senior year of high school.
  • The injury must be incapacitating. That means it must be a season-ending injury.
  • The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.
  • The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater.

Honestly, looking at it black and white from those rules he has a legit chance. My job in flying is looking at regulations black and white every day.

Unless the rule book on it mentions the reasons as to why he didn't compete then he could still get it. His suspension was his punishment, declining his redshirt would be punishing him twice essentially. He only competed in 30% of the season, period.

Agreed. Additionally, even if that 1st game counts somehow, our season will probably be greater than 12 games as we will at least make a bowl (if it's not, we've got bigger issues). Thus, using this language "more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater", if we have 13 games, 30% is 4 games, so he would still qualify.

Hopefully the NCAA doesn't decide to screw him, as they so often do to student athletes.
