WR T.Y. (Tyrone) Williams (official thread)

Ohio State on Shaw receiver and new Buckeye Tyrone Williams: Video
By Doug Lesmerises, The Plain Dealer
February 04, 2010

Shaw receiver Tyrone Williams has one edge in his fight for playing at Ohio State - he brings something no one else on the roster has. The Buckeyes don't have any other 6-foot-7 options catching passes.

"It's a beautiful thing," OSU receivers coach Darrell Hazell said. "A 6-7 guy who can lower his hips, who has quickness to get off the ball, has a burst, plays outside his body - he's a rare guy. He's special."

In this video, offensive coordinator talks about Williams during the Buckeyes' National Signing Day news conference on Wednesday.

Good point. forgot about Stoney, although I do think that Tyrone and Lighty were more similar coming out of high school.(no, not because they are both African American)

There is no way this kid is a TE. He is a WR all the way in my opinion. I really believe that this dude is gonna be a great one here. He's got the speed, the ups, and obviously amazing size. He needs to work on the route running and separation for sure, but with hard work here I have no problem saying he's gonna be an amazing deep threat for us.

I would comapre his skill set to Plaxico Burress. He brings something that you don't find on the split end that often, so you definetly should keep him there. With his height AND leaping ability, he should win nearly every jump ball. The biggest corners are 6'2" at best, so that is 5 inches right there. Good luck out jumping Tyrone in the redzone.

So when Brees hit the the two go ahead touchdowns, when Jenkins darn near picked off Manning, when Porter DID get the pick six, did the crowd begin to chant, "Big Ten, Big Ten, Big Ten, Big Ten?"

Braxton Miller will have fun throwing to this monster!

You're exactly right. Miller can throw the ball up and not only will Williams go up and get it at the apex, he can also outrun the CB and run underneath the ball. He made a freakish catch today that was thrown down the sideline, he went up and tipped it up in the air, then spun 180 degrees and caught it with one hand as the CB was falling to the ground.

He is a monster.

He will be hiding under Michigan's bed very soon.

ON TYRONE WILLIAMS?

I?m a little disappointed we didn?t see Williams dominate the game the way I had expected after watching him in practice during the week. At 6-foot-7, he literally could have had his way with any of the South defensive backs, but they simply didn?t look for him. He caught a pair of 9-yard slants where he did an excellent job of catching the ball traffic with his hands away from his body, but they hardly ever used what I consider to be their most dangerous weapon.

He did draw a pass interference call late in the game and they finally went to him in the red zone on a successful two-point conversion, but I would have loved to see them target him more often throughout the game.
