WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

Good thing Oregon's Boyett isn't related to this Boyett:

I'm not big in the insight department, but I hadn't seen this mentioned yet, and I think it's one of the most important aspects of Terrelle Pryor and his impact on college football - his phenomenal development into a killer on third down.

When the Buckeyes were in 3rd-and-long, you never felt like we were "out of it." Terrelle turns 3rd-and-13 into something that feels more like 3rd-and-2. He has the ability to focus when the situation is dire, and frequently to come up with just enough yards to keep the drive moving. In that regard, he's almost Favre-like. Last night we were an astonishing 11 of 21 on 3rd down, and often we had lots of yards to cover.

What's the OSU record for all-time wins as a starting QB?

Craig Krenzel was 24-3 as a starter

Rex Kern was 27-2 (if he started all of the games for the super sophs, and given that he had some injury problems, I am not sure if he did or not)

Troy Smith was 26-3 as a starter (not counting the Texas game is 2005 because technically he didn't start)

Art Schlichter was 36-11-1 (if he started every game from '78-81, which I think he did)

I think all of these numbers are correct, but I am not 100%

Kern missed a couple games in the '68 season due to injuries IIRC...I think he's 25-2 as an actual starter (paging BB73).

BB73 edit - he was 27-2.

I won't post all of the oregonlive.com articles tonight, but I have to present this one immediately:

John Canzano: Terrelle Pryor shows how much Oregon has to grow | John Canzano - ? OregonLive.com

The only thing I want Buckeye fans to take from this is the praise of Terrelle. He deserves every ounce. On all other topics/discussions, Canzano is an ass hat. The Oregon Ducks played a sound game. The Buckeyes were just better.

Isn't this the same guy that said Ohio State didn't belong on the same field as either Oregon or Oregon State after The Civil War? Isn't this the same guy that was predicting a 50 point blowout win by the Ducks a week ago? So he just watched the game (presumably) and pins the whole thing on Pryor? No.

Pryor was good, no doubt, but Oregon lost because they only scored 17 points. For all Pryor's heroics, and I certainly don't want to diminish that in Pryor's own thread, OSU held the ball for over 40 minutes, ground out over 400 yards, but still only scored 26. Still too many stalls going into the red zone and too much settling for FGs.

Oregon lost because they had no answer for Cam, Worthington, Gibson, et al on the D-Line. Sure, Oregon broke a couple long runs to pad their stats and had a great night on kick returns, but OSU's D otherwise completely shut them down.

Pryor had a great game because the D kept giving him the ball back.

No, that article by Canzano is as dumb and shortsighted as all his others. Oregon just got mauled by a superior D, and he's still writing about offenses. Oregon didn't lose this game two years ago when they failed to sign Pryor, they lost this four years ago when they failed to sign replacements for guys like Haloti Ngata.

Yep - here it is ...
John Canzano, columnist
Oregon 50, Ohio State 20
Ducks offense too much for Buckeyes.

Yep, there's a reason tOSU wins 10 and 11 games in "rebuilding years". It's because they recruit kids like Gibson, Heyward, Worthington, Simon, Larimore, Spitler, Rolle, Homan, Sabino, etc, etc, etc...

Oh, having an athlete like TP to mold helps too. I'm still in awe when he takes off running. He doesn't appear to be making any great effort, but he runs right by almost everybody on the field. Just fun to watch...
