WR Torrance Gibson (Green Bay Blizzard)

After looking at alot of tape and reading alot of websites and peoples opinions, including former college players heres what i think is a perfect scouting report/pros-Cons of Torrance Gibson

Pros-
Size, at 6'4 210 Gibson is big for a HS Senior QB, not out of the question for him to get to 220-225
Arm Strength, just like they said during the AA game, kid can throw it a mile
as Elite as it gets in athletic ability for a QB. He didnt look to have those quicks and moves and being flat out faster then everyone in the AA game he did in his JR tape, (in fact he was chased down by west LBs a few times, but those LBs were also sub 4.55 guys) but he was also playing vs the best of the best. I think he's more Pryor then Miller.
Smart Passer/high football IQ. only 7 career INTs in college in over 400 attempts.

Cons-
Accuracy, 50% career in HS that was only at 53% at its best.
Pocket Awareness, he always seems to hold the ball way to long which leads to alot of those highlight runs. but also leads to making bad un-catchable throws on the run when he's trying not to get sacked
Release, Very Tim Tebow like release, pretty slow. Going to have to speed that up alot if he wants an NFL career.
Footwork. Doesn't always plant his feet, doesn't always settle in the pocket to make a good pass

Good NFL Comparison? Colin Kaepernick. Why?
when you read a good Kaepernick scouting report out of college like this one, http://nfldraftgeek.com/kaepernick , it nearly matches Gibson word for word. I loved Kapernick coming out of Nevada and knew he would be good. He has tools to overcome his weaknesses in other areas. I think the potential is there for Gibson to have some of the best stats we have ever seen in an Ohio State QB, even better then Barretts 45 TDs this year, but its going to take him making a full commitment to changing some of his game and willing to learn. losing Herman will hurt as i think he's the best QB coach we have ever had, but theres always room for improvement with coaches, we will see who Meyer brings in to replace him and hopefully its not just a great recruiter as like i said, the moon is the limit for Gibson, with the right attitude and coaching.

so he's like Colin Kaepernick, but instead of Jim Harbaugh as his coach...he has Urban Meyer?

sweet!

the Talent is there, but so is the question if he's like Pryor in he's just being doing so many things wrong for so long that you can fix him, or is he Kaepernick that he can quicken his release and plant his feet on his throws

but like i said in another thread, i like Guarantano more. Better actual QB talent and same size and just a step slower, which is still fast for a QB.

I don't like the comparisons with Pryor. Gibson, Pryor, Miller, even Barrett are all fast and elusive while on the move or making something out of a broken play. When I think back to the key thing that stood out to me about Pryor it was his strength, he was special in that with the speed and big play ability he could then stiff arm a 240lb linebacker and make it look easy. Gibson may fill out and get a lot stronger in college, as most players do, but even out of high school Pryor showed he was a beast physically. Don't misunderstand, yes Gibson is very gifted and an elite physical talent. I just don't see the Pryor comparison from a mechanical viewpoint.

Gibson isn't as elusive as Miller, and maybe not even as much as Barrett. that much was shown at the AA practices and even game. he is however much faster then both. 6'6 220, pryor out of HS, is about the same height/weight ratio as 6'4 210 Gibson is out of HS. a Pryor comparison is pretty spot on.

But like @EasternBuck said, the big difference is Pryor's strength. His stiff arm would just throw 240-250lb LB off of him, and DBs one on one would just bounce off of him. Gibson doesn't have that strength, he's going down on arm tackles by DBs, i haven't seen a film of him stiff arming guys in HS like Pryor did. There was a number of times I didn't think Pryor would make a first down and he just bowled over the defender and got an extra 3-4yds while the defender was hugging his legs on the ground out of bounds
The fact that Gibson's 2nd position could be WR instead of QB and a number of coaches liked Pryor at DE shows their diffrence in strength.

Pryor was 225 coming out of high school and was listed as a QB/WR by at least one recruiting service. It took him a year in the program to put on the kind of bulk that he did. Not saying Gibson will do the same but just think it's worth noting...
