I'm just guessing that it's true...I'm guessing that if he kne he probably attempted to talk to the players about it. But with the pressure here it's probably difficult to get information like this and turn yourself in.

I just can't believe Tressel would do something like this though. The way he preaches about being a good person and citizen, I just can't see him covering something up like this. Pressure or not, he just seems to be the guy that would take the higher road.

Again, I don't know. This just sucks.

... if this is somehow proven true, I doubt it will and I hope it isn't, Tressel needs to be fired immediately on confirmation.
I'll go on record right now and say that, regardless of the outcome of this investigation, "firing Tressel immediately" would not be a good idea at all.

Tressel may be somewhat culpable for delaying the daylighting of transgressions of NCAA rules. If he is, then he deserves criticism, no doubt. But his ethics have been sufficiently demonstrated IMO that this sort of knee-jerk reaction would be ludicrous.

Like what was said before...this is not the SEC.....somebody's head is going to roll....at this point we don't know who....(if true)....
It's quite a long way to get from "this isn't the SEC" to "somebody's head is going to roll." I'm sorry, but having the ultimate goal of demonstrating that we aren't the SEC isn't really necessary - that's self-evident. The proper course of action here is to look at the situation holistically and make thoughtful decisions - and firing Jim Tressel wouldn't qualify as a thoughtful decision under any circumstances. It would be knee-jerk.

If Tressel knew of the Tat 5 situation in April and didn't have it investigated...those set of circumstances...how could it call for anything other than his firing?

What evidence do you have that this was not investigated?

No one has anything right now, that's why we've been using the IF word.

You said firing him under any set of circumstances would be knee jerk. I laid out a possible set of circumstances that would, imo, call for his immediate removal.

If he knew and didn't turn it in, it's the same as lying in my book. He was covering it up. If this is confirmed, it should lead to his immediate termination.

I see this going one of these ways:

1) Tressel turned it in, OSU compliance investigated, the players lied. In this scenario the players look even worse and the athletic department covered up that they players were not truthful in the first place.

2) Tressel turned it in, OSU compliance swept it under a rug. The university is in deep trouble.

3) Tressel knew and did nothing. Tressel is in deep trouble.

4) The story is a complete fabrication.

I have a feeling based on Yahoo's past work that it is not #4, but it's also hard to see Tressel doing something wrong here given his track record so I'm going with 1 or 2.
