05 Texas ineligible for BCS

The day Texas goes undefeated and doesn't qualify for the BCS will be the day... well, it'll be a very rare day.

All other problems have been solved in this great state. Ignore the man behind the curtain.

"I do take comfort in the fact that we have no state income tax"

Of course we have higher sales taxes and property taxes. And the education system is crumbling, but we did pass Mississippi AND Arkansas.
actually depending on the county you are in Texas has a lower sales tax, Ohio and texas both have a sales tax that varies from county to county, and even if you take the highest county in texas and the lowest county in ohio, it is around a 2% diffrence. And please remember that on many items it is your choice to buy and subsequently pay the sales tax.

As far as the education system, it is crumbling all ovrer the united states. Seems to me that really it is just degrees of crumbling. Thats what we get for letting Ted Kennedy write our education reform bill.

now that we have gotten way off topic(on the wrong board at any rate) you are very correct when you say that it would be a rare day that texas went undefeated and didnt make the bcs, same can be said for any team in the big 12, big 11, pac 2, Sec, and acc

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... no Big XII team should EVER be allowed to play for all the marbles again. EVER. Period.

Big XII Blog

Oh, and for what it's worth, you posters have been pretty cool, so you can overlook what I said about "texas fans" on that blog. Every other UT fan I've run across is a jackass.

Its funny how things go in circles. I can remember saying these same things 6 or 7 years ago, (maybe even 3 or 4) when all we ever heard from keith jackson and the rest of 'em was how tough of a schedual the big ten plays. At the time the big ten was down. It didn't make it a bad confrence, just was down.

Is the big 12 down? yes, without a doubt. But you know what? soon the sec will be down again, and then the big 10 agian. Pac 2 will always be down.:wink2: No one confrence will dominate forever. After my first post on this board someone called me out for making a blanket statment(i believe that it was buckeyefromscum) I think that the same can be said for, "no Big XII team should EVER be allowed to play for all the marbles again. EVER. Period." I know you made this statement out of frustration and you probably think that the big 10 has been slighted in the past. But I don't thik that it will happen this year. Big 10 is very strong this year and I would almost garuntee that if anyone goes undefeated in the big 10 they will be in the mnc.(only said almost in light of the fiasco this year)

On another note, Will the big 10 ever play a championship game? Do you ever get tiered or tiebrakers and split titles and so on?

I hope the Big Ten never sells out and gets a championship game. It would gain them money (which is nice for them, but what does it get us fans?), and some team would say, "Yippee! We won the conference championship game!" I think it would be like the Big XII or SEC title games, where the 4-loss team plays against a 0 or 1 loss team. But a championship game can damage the Big Ten in several ways: first, an undefeated, national-championship game-bound team can go into the conference championship game and lose, losing its chance for an NC. I know, I know, if they want to win the NC, they need to win the games. I agree. But the conference championship game is basically a no-lose game for the undefeated team's opponent. (If they lose, so what? Its an undefeated team. If they win, then it's the biggest news since Pete Rose.) The worst thing, though, that a championship game can ruin in the Big Ten is the one million years of history. The Ohio State - Michigan game has been the last regular season game for both teams since 1935, and it has determined the conference champion something like 500 times (ok - I exagerate). To get a championship game, you have to put Ohio State and Michigan separate divisions, and they won't play each other every year, or in the same division, and the OSU-UM game is no longer for the championship. Too much is ruined by a conference championship game.

In my opinion, the Big XII isn't as bad as BKB says, but they don't live up to their hype. I don't think the SEC is as good as the media insists, either. The ACC, now with Miami and Va Tech (and do they have BC and Syracuse now?), is now actually underrated. And, I'm biased, but I think the Big Ten is underrated. I think we can all agree, though, that the Big Least shouldn't even be rated.

I can understand the history part of it, but if you put mich and tOSU in diff confrences they can still play every year. You would do it much the way that the sec does where each team plays a rival from the other division every year. To tell you the truth I don't care if you have one or not. I just feel like all of the bcs confrences should do the same thing. Seems much more likely that the big 10 and others would put in a championship game( if for no other reason than money) than the sec and big 12 getting rid of theirs. I don't think that you will see the big 12 as hyped as much this year and the sec is on the down swing after the increadably dominant season 2 years ago. I don't think that you can say that the big 10 is under rated this year, Mich, tOSU, Iowa are all preseason top 10 and there a host of other solid teams, I would not be surprised at all if the national champion comes from the big 10. And yes we can deffinatly agree that the big least should not be rated.

I think that the Big Ten would adopt a conference championship game sometime (I think ND will cave, the Big Ten will cave, and will be 12 teams). The money issue always wins, in the long run. But I, as a fan of the Big Ten, would rather not see a conference championship.

And I do think the Big XII and SEC teams often get hosed by having their conference championship games. I would rather see all conferences go without a championship than see all have a championship game. But that's just not going to happen.

The only way ND caves is if the Big Ten breaks away from ABC and signs a broadcast contract with NBC..
Good point.. There seems to be enough nationwide ND fans to support them on NBC, regardless of how many losses they get. That's fine with me. I hope they don't join the Big Ten. Or, more precisely, I hope they WANT to join the Big Ten, but the Big Ten tells them to go suck a kite.
