'06 MD LB Navorro Bowman (Penn State signee)

national coverage of recruiting is overkill at times, but then again, so is logging into BP to read a long thread about a HS kid. As long as the kid does not intentionally mislead a team, he has every right to enjoy his moment. His great performance as a hs athlete has earned it.

as a previous poster said, it is fun following recruiting and then recognizing the names a few years down the road when they are stars. Occasionally we even have input from those close to the player, like Taz himself, or VlMarti on BN.

It will be enjoyable to watch ESPN News with anticipation tomorrow. I can't fault the kid for going to PSU. Both schools are rich in tradition, especially at LB.

If Tressel was last to speak with him before his decision, I think he chooses OSU. But, with Paterno getting an in-house visit the night before he announces, combined with the fact that he was thought to be a PSU lean, I still think he chooses PSU.

It was reported last Friday that Bowman's decision had already been made. That would make the in-home visits most likely for one of two things... To give the coaches one last chance to change his mind, or to tell them in person where he is going...

I just noticed one thing... I believe JoePa's visit was last night... Gary H and nevada didn't state their comments until after JoePa's visit was most likely over...

Ireton Juniors in No Big Hurry

By Josh Barr

<NITF>Shane Walker and Mike Williams, the two tall Englishmen suiting up for Bishop Ireton, are getting plenty of recruiting attention. Walker, a 6-foot-10 junior forward, has scholarship offers from Maryland, Georgetown, Virginia Tech and Vanderbilt. Williams, a 6-11 junior center, has offers from Pittsburgh, Michigan and American, according to Steve McCaskill, the legal guardian for both players.</NITF>
<NITF>Although many players are committing to colleges at earlier and earlier stages of their high school careers, McCaskill said it will be some time before either accepts a scholarship. The earliest would be end of summer or next fall," said McCaskill, who was a student manager for the basketball team when he attended Georgetown and now is in corporate sales. "The biggest thing for them is they didn't come up in America so an early decision would be hard because they didn't grow up saying, 'I want to play in the ACC or Maryland or Duke or anything like that.'</NITF>
<NITF>"Virginia Tech and Maryland have been on Walker the hardest," McCaskill said, with Vanderbilt making a recent push. Michigan, Villanova and others also are recruiting Walker. "And all the schools, with the exception of Virginia Tech, that are recruiting Shane are also recruiting Mike, they just haven't offered," McCaskill said.</NITF>
<NITF>Walker has caught coaches' attention with his athletic ability and agility. Williams has worked hard to get in shape since the two came over two years ago, dropping 70 pounds to get down to 255. Walker averaged 7.2 points and 8.0 rebounds last season; Williams 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds.</NITF>
<NITF>"They're getting a lot of interest," Ireton Coach Chuck Driesell said. "There aren't a lot of big kids out there. Bigs are hard to come by."</NITF>

<NITF>In football, it was a tough season for Suitland All-Met linebacker Navorro Bowman. He injured his shoulder in the second game, returned in mid-October only to reinjure the shoulder in the first half of a game against Gwynn Park. Bowman then returned and played only on defense in the regular season finale to lead Suitland to a playoff-clinching victory.</NITF>
<NITF>This week, Bowman should finally get a moment to enjoy. Suitland Coach Nick Lynch said Bowman has visits scheduled Sunday with Virginia Tech Coach Frank Beamer, Monday with Ohio State Coach Jim Tressel and Tuesday with Penn State Coach Joe Paterno. Florida also is making a late push, Lynch said, and Bowman will announce his college decision Thursday.</NITF>
<NITF>"With the disappointment of him working so hard to get ready for this season and him not having the season how he probably wanted to finish, now he gets a dash of the glory and all the excitement," Lynch said. "He can enjoy this with his family and schoolmates and friends. It's going to be big deal."</NITF>
<NITF>Bowman said surgery is scheduled for later this month.</NITF>

<!-- BREAK -->

<NITF>Old Mill running back Ryan Callahan has six scholarship offers but is not close to reaching a decision, Patriots Coach Mike Marcus said earlier this week at a luncheon for the coaches of Maryland's semifinal teams.</NITF>
<NITF>Northeastern was the latest school to offer the undersized Callahan, who has rushed for 1,801 yards and 29 touchdowns entering Friday's game at top-ranked Damascus. Previously, Akron, Kent, Towson, James Madison and Florida A&M had offered Callahan.</NITF>
<NITF>"It's just a matter of things working out," Marcus said.</NITF>

if indeed he did make his mind up last friday, couldnt JoePas visit almost be a benefit to us? maybe this is wishful thinking on my part, but maybe he told tressel he plans to go tOSU and was waiting to tell JoePa and his staff the night before so no information leaks out. i dont know too much about recruting. is this a realistic possibility?
