'06 MN DT Walker Ashley (Minny...no, maybe USC......no, PSU...no, Minnesota commit)

I know this is the Ashley thread, but those same fans have been buzzing about a certain running back getting moved to linebacker eventually.

Sounds like Walker's bull**** detector might have gone off

I know the ladies from Troy are hoping they don't lose LB Luther Brown to LSU because they are in need of help at linebacker. You might be on to something YSU.

He does not want to go so far away from home and end up at a different position. I think if Fred Davis knew he would be a TE at USC he would definitely have chosen the Buckeyes. At least Walker Ashley is realizing what might happen if he goes to SC before he is already committed. And he also realizes he could potentially be a starter at some point of next season for tOSU on the DL.

There is no way Walker Ashley can be a starter for OSU next season look at the depth chart: DT: Pitcock, Patterson, Green, Abdallah, Cotton, Maupin. DE: Kudla, Richardson, Gohlston, and Barrow. And that doesn't even mention Denlinger, Williams, and possibly Wilson. Ashley has a chance to be a great player, but there is no way he will start here next season.

What's your point, exactly? Most players, regardless of position, don't start at any school as true freshmen. I think that most kids realize this. However, Ashley could see meaningful playing time at Ohio State as a true freshman.

OSU coaches have stated they like to have an 8-10 man rotation at DL. If Ashley is all that and a bag of chips he should certainly not have a problem breaking into a 10 man rotation. If he can't do that there is no reason to get excited about him possibly coming here - and I for one am excited about him possibly coming here.

In any case, there is certainly no greater need for him on OL than DL given the current depth charts.

There are two guys in your list that are locks for starters this season: Pitcock and Kudla. While Patterson and Green will probably be the ones battling it out for the other starting DT slot, the DE spot vacated by Fraser is open. Richardson may have the inside track, and Gholston may move over there if he's the second best DE on the team, but it's still up in the air. If he's good enough, he definitely could at least get some field time at either of those positions.

very true. also he's being sold on the notion of getting PT at USC, not necessarily starting. osu uses all their DL rather interchangibly with heavy roation. if you are one of hte top 6-8 DL at OSU chances are you are going to get your share of PT.
