'07 PA WR Toney Clemons (Michigan escapee)

Apparently the reason why he seems like an early Pitt lean, is because Pitt (one of three schools to offer him yet, the other two being Akron and UConn) is the only "big-time" school that has received his game tapes from his HS Coach yet. Hmmmm, wonder why that maybe? Clemons is really tight with his first cousin Steve Breaston, so I don't think he'd appreciate all the Buckeye fans bashing him. Save the Stevie B bashing for another thread.

I really like the fact that the staff went to one of his games last year. It seems the staff is all over this kid and as soon as they see film.

I think this is going to be a tOSU/Michigan/Pitt battle.

Expectations are high for the Wolverines this year, higher than normal thanks to the coaching changes.

I think if they fall flat on there face like they did last year it will hurt there chances with quite a few recruits. Everyone is so high on Coach English that if they dont dramatically improve I think they will feel it on the recruiting front.

Thats just my opinion though.

Now back to Toney, I think we have as good of a chance as everyone. I also dont buy him going to either Miami or USC. Him having family in C-bus also is a plus.

Agree with you on pretty much every one of your points. Toney will take his visits to USC and Miami to go on some nice little vacations, but I think he'll stay close to home. It'll come down to four schools, ND/U-M/OSU/Pitt.
Clemons is really close with his family and his cousin Stevie, so I do think that'll have a big affect on his recruitment. He'll want to be close to his family. Toney looks upto Stevie alot and they are very tight so I think that might give Michigan some type of edge. Breaston wants him at Michigan, but he's not telling him you better go there or else, he's letting him do his own thing but he's still talking up Michigan to him big-time.

Steve is not going to be there next year so that is not a big selling pt. IMO.

If anything his sister at Pitt would be.

He also has family in columbus which could help us.

No offense CWood, but we heard this about Devon Lyons and Ryan Mundy. We also heard it with Wes and Devon Lyons. Those situations ended up with the players not following their family. All cases are different, so I can't say what Toney is thinking, but I do agree with crazy that I doubt it's much of a factor because Steve won't be there.

Well, I really don't think Mundy was as close to Wes/Devon as Breaston is to Clemons to be honest. Secondly Wes never even got offered by Michigan. Also, Devon didn't get shown the kind of love by Michigan that he did by Ohio State. Michigan was one of the last schools to offer him and he didn't get offered until November. Anyways, they just weren't as close to Mundy as Breaston and Clemons are with eachother. Even though Breaston won't be there, it'll still be a factor in my opinion. In a recent interview with a Pitt recruiting publication they asked Clemons who his role model was in life, who his inspiration in life was, and who his favorite football player was. Do you know who the answer to all those questions were? Steve Breaston. They just have a very tight-knight relationship and Breaston is like an older brother figure, so I do think it'll have some type of effect on his recruitment.

I think that Michigan having Breaston could be a small factor, but not a huge one. I may be biased, but I think having family in Columbus is a bigger advantage for us.

I think his decision will be based on two things:

1. Where he feels most comfortable
2. Which school can get him to the NFL

how many dream schools can a kid have? Reading his past updates sounds like he has at least three. Could be a play for more offers.

Disagree. This kid is so good that he doesn't have to play to get offers. He'll get them. The reason he only has 4 offers right now is because nobody could get a hold of his game-film. Nobody is going to offer a kid on reputation alone, they want to see game tapes. You can thank his coach for teams not having his game-film earlier. Clemons family became aware of the situation and had a friend of theirs send out film to many different schools, so offers will be pooring in for him very soon. I do know that he has been a lifelong Michigan fan though, so I don't think he's just blowing smoke there.

I think Clemons' relationship with Steve Breaston benefits Michigan by helping us get our foot in the door and giving us a favorable early impression. However, as Clemons' recruitment unfolds over the course of the year, I think that any early advantages disappear. He'll go where he feels most comfortable and has the best opportunities. Being close to home is nice, but his family would be in half-day's drive of the majority of his games at Pitt, OSU, or UM.
